2017

Autobiographical memories are deeply linked with emotional regulation processes and self-concept. Conversely, in case of affective disorders, the access to specific phenomenological components would be impaired. Intentional non-probabilistic sampling was carried out, involving 94 individuals with major depression and 188 healthy individuals in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The phenomenological components of significant autobiographical recollections were contrasted, considering their quantity and intensity. In addition, the depressive individuals' performances were compared according to the presence or absence of previous depressive episodes, psychopharmacological treatment and sever…

The hippocampus and remote autobiographical memory.

2005

In Newsdesk (August, 2005),1 new evidence for the neuroanatomy of remote memory was reported. On the basis of the findings of the US team lead by Larry Squire,2 remote autobiographical memory was suggested to be independent of the medial temporal lobe but dependent on the neocortex. By contrast with previous hypotheses, this new proposal predicts that after damage to the medial temporal lobe only recent autobiographical memories should be impaired in neurological patients, whereas loss of both recent and old autobiographical memories implies additional damage in the neocortex. However, there is evidence not included in the Newsdesk article, that is problematic for this new prediction. Two p…

Deconstructing Machos, Constructing People. Narratives of Alienation from Hegemonic Masculinity in Spain

2022

Can sad music really make you sad? Indirect measures of affective states induced by music and autobiographical memories

2012

The present study addressed music’s disputed ability to induce genuine sadness in listeners by investigating whether listening to sad music can induce sadness-related effects on memory and judgment. Related aims were to explore how the different mechanisms of music-induced emotions are involved in sadness induced by familiar, self-selected music and unfamiliar, experimenter-selected music, and whether the susceptibility to music-induced sadness is associated with trait empathy. One hundred twenty participants were randomly assigned into four conditions with different tasks: listening to unfamiliar sad or neutral music, or to self-selected sad music, or recalling a sad autobiographical event…

How to Become an Author: The Poet Isa Asp and Her Childhood Fascination with Writing for Magazines

2021

In this article the author explores the early development of the identity as a writer of a Finnish-speaking poet Lovisa (or Isa) Asp (1853–1872). She wrote her lyrics in the Finnish language in the 1870s, and she is regarded as the first 19th-century female Finnish poet (whose works were published in Finnish). She began writing poetry (initially in Swedish) as a teenager and started her literary career as a contributor to children’s magazines. Asp began her studies at the Teacher Training College in Jyväskylä in autumn 1871 with the aim of working as an elementary school teacher, but she also dreamt of becoming an established writer someday. Unfortunately, her early death meant that most of…
