Water Temperature Increasing Caused Mastigias Papua Disappeared in Marine Lake Lenmakana Misool Raja Ampat Regency, West Papua
2020
Mastigias papua is a jellyfish that is trademark of marine lakes. Ongeim’l Tketau Lake in Palau, Hang Du I Lake in Vietnam, Kakaban Lake in Kalimantan, and Lenmakana Lake in Raja Ampat Papua are exotic tourist destinations because of presence of these biota in the lake. Water temperature is very influential on the life of a jellyfish because of its mutual symbiosis with brown algae zooxanthellae. Mastigias has totally disappeared in several places due to water temperature increasing, including Lenmakana Lake in the West Monsoon 2017/2018 and 2018/2019. The absence of Mastigias in this lake will be explained by recorded logger data installed in the lake and at sea. Secondary data from NOAA a…
An ITS-RFLP method to identify black Aspergillus isolates responsible for OTA contamination in grapes and wine
2006
Ochratoxigenic mycobiota in grapes from representative wine regions in Valencia was identified. Black aspergilli were predominant among the different Aspergillus spp. isolated. Restriction digestion analysis of the ITS products was tested as a rapid method to identify isolates of black Aspergillus species from grapes. Restriction endonuclease digestion of the ITS products using the endonucleases HhaI, NlaIII and RsaI, distinguished five types of restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) corresponding to Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus tubingensis, Aspergillus carbonarius and Aspergillus aculeatus species. In addition, a new RFLP type in the A. niger aggregate was identified. The fragme…
Middle Triassic conodont apparatus architecture revealed by synchrotron X-ray microtomography
2018
Abstract The composition of conodont apparatuses is crucial for understanding the feeding mechanisms of these early vertebrates. However, the multielement apparatus reconstructions of most species remain equivocal because they have been inferred from loose element collections, guided by knowledge from rare articulated ‘bedding plane assemblages’ and fused clusters, often from distantly related taxa. Even these natural assemblages can be difficult to interpret because the component elements can be closely juxtaposed or embedded in matrix, making it hard to discern the morphology of each element and their relative positions within the architecture of the feeding apparatus. Here we report five…
Comparative efficacy of Zataria multiflora Boiss., Origanum compactum and Eugenia caryophyllus essential oils against E. coli O157:H7, feline caliciv…
2013
Abstract Ready-to-eat salads using baby-leaf and multi-leaf mixes are one of the most promising developments in the fresh-cut food industry. There is great interest in developing novel decontamination treatments, which are both safe for consumers and more efficient against foodborne pathogens. In this study, emulsions of essential oils (EOs) from Origanum compactum (oregano), Eugenia caryophyllus (clove), and Zataria multiflora Boiss (zataria) were applied by spray (0.8 ml) after the sanitizing washing step. The aim was to investigate their ability to control the growth of potentially cross-contaminating pathogens and endogenous microbiota in commercial baby leaves, processed in a fresh-cut…
Introduction. Ecological immunology.
2009
12 pages; International audience; An organism's fitness is critically reliant on its immune system to provide protection against parasites and pathogens. The structure of even simple immune systems is surprisingly complex and clearly will have been moulded by the organism's ecology. The aim of this review and the theme issue is to examine the role of different ecological factors on the evolution of immunity. Here, we will provide a general framework of the field by contextualizing the main ecological factors, including interactions with parasites, other types of biotic as well as abiotic interactions, intraspecific selective constraints (life-history trade-offs, sexual selection) and popula…
Shotgun metagenomics sequencing of the rhizosphere microbiota associated to seven ecotypes of Medicago truncatula
2019
International audience; Healthy plants host a remarkable diversity of microorganisms known as plant microbiota, which provide host services such as pathogen protection and nutrient acquisition. Thus, plant microbiota emerges as a trait that extends the capacity of plants to adapt to their environment. So far, microbial community profiling has mostly allowed the description of the phylogenetic structure of plant microbiota, whereas functional insights were mostly obtained from experiments using model strains. Thus, the plant impact on the microbial functional genes pool in the rhizosphere remains largely unknown. The goals of the study were to (i) compare the functional genes pool of the rhi…
