Hermite interpolation: The barycentric approach

1991

The barycentric formulas for polynomial and rational Hermite interpolation are derived; an efficient algorithm for the computation of these interpolants is developed. Some new interpolation principles based on rational interpolation are discussed.

Discrete multiresolution based on hermite interpolation: computing derivatives

2004

Abstract Harten’s framework for multiresolution representation of data has been extended by Warming and Beam in [SIAM J. Sci. Comp. 22 (2000) 1269] to include Hermite interpolation. It needs the point-values of the derivative, which are usually unavailable, so they have to be approximated. In this work we show that the way in which the derivatives are approximated is crucial for the success of the method, and we present a new way to compute them that makes the scheme adequate for non-smooth data.

A Birkhoff type integral and the Bourgain property in a locally convex space

2007

An integral, called the $Bk$-integral, for functions taking values in a locally convex space is defined. Properties of $Bk$-integrable functions are considered and the relations with other integrals are studied. Moreover the $Bk$-integrability of bounded functions is compared with the Bourgain property.

Regularized Euler-alpha motion of an infinite array of vortex sheets

2016

We consider the Euler- $$\alpha $$ regularization of the Birkhoff–Rott equation and compare its solutions with the dynamics of the non regularized vortex-sheet. For a flow induced by an infinite array of planar vortex-sheets we analyze the complex singularities of the solutions.Through the singularity tracking method we show that the regularized solution has several complex singularities that approach the real axis. We relate their presence to the formation of two high-curvature points in the vortex sheet during the roll-up phenomenon.

Singular behavior of a vortex layer in the zero thickness limit

2017

The aim of this paper is to study the Euler dynamics of a 2D periodic layer of non uniform vorticity. We consider the zero thickness limit and we compare the Euler solution with the vortex sheet evolution predicted by the Birkhoff-Rott equation. The well known process of singularity formation in shape of the vortex sheet correlates with the appearance of several complex singularities in the Euler solution with the vortex layer datum. These singularities approach the real axis and are responsible for the roll-up process in the layer motion.

Rational Hermite Interpolation and Quadrature

1993

Rational Hermite interpolation is used in two different ways in order to derive and analyze quadrature rules. One approach yields quadratures of Gaussian-type whereas the other one generalizes Engels’ dual quadratures exhibiting the close connection between rational Hermite interpolation and quadrature in general.

A criterion for zero averages and full support of ergodic measures

2018

International audience; Consider a homeomorphism $f$ defined on a compact metric space $X$ and a continuous map $\phi\colon X \to \mathbb{R}$. We provide an abstract criterion, called control at any scale with a long sparse tail for a point $x\in X$ and the map $\phi$, which guarantees that any weak* limit measure $\mu$ of the Birkhoff average of Dirac measures $\frac1n\sum_0^{n-1}\delta(f^i(x))$ s such that $\mu$-almost every point $y$ has a dense orbit in $X$ and the Birkhoff average of $\phi$ along the orbit of $y$ is zero.As an illustration of the strength of this criterion, we prove that the diffeomorphisms with nonhyperbolic ergodic measures form a $C^1$-open and dense subset of the s…

Some new results on integration for multifunction

2018

It has been proven in previous papers that each Henstock-Kurzweil-Pettis integrable multifunction with weakly compact values can be represented as a sum of one of its selections and a Pettis integrable multifunction. We prove here that if the initial multifunction is also Bochner measurable and has absolutely continuous variational measure of its integral, then it is a sum of a strongly measurable selection and of a variationally Henstock integrable multifunction that is also Birkhoff integrable.
