Group psychoeducation with relaxation for severe fear of childbirth improves maternal adjustment and childbirth experience – a randomised controlled …

2014

Previous studies on the treatment of women with fear of childbirth have focused on the delivery mode. Women with fear of childbirth often suffer from anxiety and/or depression, and treatment therefore also needs to target postnatal psychological well-being and the early mother-infant relationship.Three hundred and seventy-one nulliparous women out of 4575 scored ≥100 in prospective screening (Wijma Delivery Expectancy Questionnaire, W-DEQ-A), indicating severe fear of childbirth. These women were randomised to psychoeducative group intervention with relaxation (n = 131; six sessions during pregnancy, one postnatal) or to conventional care (n = 240) by community nurses (referral if necessary…

The frequency of select adaptation disorders in preterm newborns

2021

Background: Preterm birth, defined as the birth of an infant before 37 complete weeks of gestation, is the single major cause of death and disability in children up to 5 years of age in the developed world. Aim of the study: The study aimed at analyzing select adaptation disorders in newborns delivered between 34–37 weeks of gestation and in particular, (1) determining the frequency of breathing, thermoregulatory, hypoglycemic and pathological hepatic disorders, and (2) examining underlying factors that determine their incidence. Material and methods: The study was carried out according to the documentoscopy on the basis of medical files collected between 2019–2020 at the Neonatal and Prete…

Maternal risk factors of urinary incontinence during pregnancy and postpartum: A prospective cohort study

2021

Highlights • Urinary incontinence after delivery affects every fifth woman. • Urinary incontinence before pregnancy is a risk factor of postpartum incontinence. • Primiparous women are at a greater risk of urinary incontinence after birth.

EMAS position statement: Predictors of premature and early natural menopause.

2019

Simoncini, Tommaso/0000-0002-2971-0079; Chung, Hsin-Fang/0000-0003-3261-5942; Mishra, Gita/0000-0001-9610-5904 WOS:000468709100014 PubMed ID: 31027683 Introduction: While the associations of genetic, reproductive and environmental factors with the timing of natural menopause have been extensively investigated, few epidemiological studies have specifically examined their association with premature (< 40 years) or early natural menopause (40-45 years). Aim: The aim of this position statement is to provide evidence on the predictors of premature and early natural menopause, as well as recommendations for the management of premature and early menopause and future research. Descriptive study on subjective experience of genetic testing with respect to relationship, family planning and psychosocial wellbeing among women wi…

2021

AbstractBackgroundDue to increased risk of endometrial and ovarian cancer, women belonging to known Lynch Syndrome (LS) families are recommended to undergo germline testing. Current practice in Finland is to offer counselling to women with pathogenic variant and advocate risk-reducing surgery (RRS) after completion of childbirth. The present study aimed to clarify the impacts of positive germline testing on family planning and reproductive decisions of these women, which are relatively unknown.MethodsSeventy-nine carriers of germline MMR gene pathogenic variant (path_MMR)were identified from the Finnish LS Registry as having genetic testing performed before the age of 45 years and not havin…

De monstroso partu

1596

Paving the way of systems biology and precision medicine in allergic diseases: The MeDALL success story

2016

MeDALL Mechanisms of the Development of ALLergy; EU FP7-CP-IP; Project No: 261357; 20 (10) -2015 proposed an innovative approach to develop early indicators for the prediction, diagnosis, prevention and targets for therapy(.) MeDALL linked epidemiological, clinical and basic research using a stepwise, large-scale and integrative approach: precisely phenotyped children followed in 14 birth cohorts spread across Europe were combined with systems biology omics, IgE measurement using micro-arrays and environmental data(.) Multimorbidity in the same child is more common than expected by chance alone, suggesting that these diseases share causal mechanisms irrespective of IgE sensitisation(.) IgE …

Can number and size of offspring increase simultaneously? – A central life-history trade-off reconsidered

2012

Background: To maximize their fitness, parents are assumed to allocate their resources optimally between number and size of offspring. Although this fundamental life-history trade-off has been subject to long standing interest, its genetic basis, especially in wild mammals, still remains unresolved. One important reason for this problem is that a large multigenerational pedigree is required to conduct a reliable analysis of this trade-off. Results: We used the REML-animal model to estimate genetic parameters for litter size and individual birth size for a common Palearctic small mammal, the bank vole (Myodes glareolus). Even though a phenotypic trade-off between offspring number and size wa…

Prenatal air pollution exposure and growth and cardio-metabolic risk in preschoolers

2020

Objectives: We investigated the association between outdoor air pollutants exposure in the first trimester of pregnancy, and growth and cardio-metabolic risk at four years of age, and evaluated the mediating role of birth weight. Methods: We included mother-child pairs (N = 1,724) from the Spanish INMA birth cohort established in 2003-2008. First trimester of pregnancy nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and fine particles (PM2.5) exposure levels were estimated. Height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, and lipids were measured at four years of age. Body mass index (BMI) trajectories from birth to four years were identified. Results: Increased PM2.5 exposure in the first trimester of pregnanc…

Nuorten miesten kirjeitse ohjailemat seurustelusuhteet 1800-luvun lopun sisäsuomalaisella maaseudulla

2014

Artikkelissa tarkastellaan 1800-luvun Keuruun käräjäkunnassa, sisäsuomalaisella maaseudulla eläneiden nuorten miesten ja naisten seurustelusuhteiden kehittymistä kohti avioliittoa ja sitä, kuinka tälle tielle alkoi kasautua ongelmia. Tutkimuksen ensisijaisena lähdeaineistona ovat miesten seurustelusuhteiden aikana kumppaneilleen lähettämät intiimit yksityiskirjeet (12 kappaletta), jotka naiset olivat tuoneet aviottoman lapsen elatusoikeudenkäynteihin todisteeksi suhteen aikaisesta seksuaalisesta kanssakäymisestä. Artikkeli sijoittuu kansanihmisten kirjoittamia tekstejä tarkastelevaan monitieteiseen historiantutkimuksen alaan. Artikkelissa esitetään, että kirjeet kirjoittaneet miehet pyrkivä…
