Effect of noradrenaline and isoproterenol on lipopolysaccharide-induced tumor necrosis factor-alpha production in whole blood from patients with chro…
2005
Increased levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) correlate with poor prognoses in chronic heart failure (CHF). This study demonstrated that noradrenaline and isoproterenol inhibit TNF-alpha production in patients with CHF in ex vivo whole blood in a dose-dependent fashion. The beta-blocker bisoprolol abolishes this effect.
Factors Related to the Occurrence of Microalbuminuria During Antihypertensive Treatment in Essential Hypertension
2002
The objective of the study was to assess the factors related to the occurrence of microalbuminuria during the follow-up of a young adult group with essential hypertension that had not been previously treated. Normo-albuminuric essential hypertensives, <50 years old, who had not been previously treated with antihypertensive drugs and who did not have diabetes mellitus were included. After the initial evaluation, patients were treated using only nonpharmacological measures (n=62), β-blockers (n=38), ACE inhibitors (n=64), calcium channel blockers (n=8), and several classes (n=15). Measurements were taken for office blood pressure, biochemical profile, and 24-hour urinary albumin excretion…
One-year renal and cardiac effects of bisoprolol versus losartan in recently diagnosed hypertensive patients: a randomized, double-blind study.
2009
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Hypertension is a significant cause of chronic renal injury and its effective treatment is capable of reducing the rate of renal failure. beta-Adrenoceptor antagonists (beta-blockers) have been reported to induce a deterioration in renal function, while several data have indicated a renoprotective effect of treatment with the angiotensin II type 1 receptor antagonist losartan. Previous studies of the interaction between the selective beta(1)-blocker bisoprolol and kidney function were performed only for short- and medium-term periods. The aim of this study was to compare the antihypertensive efficacy and renal and cardiac haemodynamic effects of bisoprolol with th…
Adrenoceptors (version 2019.4) in the IUPHAR/BPS Guide to Pharmacology Database
2019
The nomenclature of the Adrenoceptors has been agreed by the NC-IUPHAR Subcommittee on Adrenoceptors [58], see also [180]. Adrenoceptors, α1α1-Adrenoceptors are activated by the endogenous agonists (-)-adrenaline and (-)-noradrenaline. phenylephrine, methoxamine and cirazoline are agonists and prazosin and cirazoline antagonists considered selective for α1- relative to α2-adrenoceptors. [3H]prazosin and [125I]HEAT (BE2254) are relatively selective radioligands. S(+)-niguldipine also has high affinity for L-type Ca2+ channels. Fluorescent derivatives of prazosin (Bodipy PLprazosin- QAPB) are used to examine cellular localisation of α1-adrenoceptors. Selective α1-adrenoceptor agonists are use…
Biowaiver Monograph for Immediate-Release Solid Oral Dosage Forms: Bisoprolol Fumarate
2014
Abstract Literature data relevant to the decision to allow a waiver of in vivo bioequivalence (BE) testing for the approval of immediate-release (IR) solid oral dosage forms containing bisoprolol as the sole active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) are reviewed. Bisoprolol is classified as a Class I API according to the current Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS). In addition to the BCS class, its therapeutic index, pharmacokinetic properties, data related to the possibility of excipient interactions, and reported BE/bioavailability problems are taken into consideration. Qualitative compositions of IR tablet dosage forms of bisoprolol with a marketing authorization (MA) in ICH (Inter…
Role of Bisoprolol in Patients with Long QT Syndrome
2013
Background Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is a disorder of ventricular repolarization usually treated with β-blockers, mostly with propanolol and nadolol. The aim of our study was to evaluate the role of bisoprolol in LQTS patients. Methods A total of 34 patients were evaluated in an average follow-up time of 93 months: 31 months without treatment, 31 months in treatment with nadolol or propanolol and 31 months in treatment with bisoprolol. The average age of patients at diagnosis was 17.3 years. The enrolled patients were followed through a semiannual electrocardiogram and an annual 24-hour Holter monitoring. All patients underwent genotyping, routine hematologic tests, and an echocardiogram. Res…

Insufficient control of heart rate in stable coronary artery disease patients in Latvia
2014
Background and objective:\ud Heart rate (HR) ≥70 beats per minute (bpm) increases cardiovascular risk in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients. The objective of the analysis is to characterize HR as well as other clinical parameters in outpatients with stable CAD in Latvia.<p></p>\ud \ud Materials and methods:\ud CLARIFY is an ongoing international registry of outpatients with established CAD. Latvian data regarding 120 patients enrolled in CLARIFY and collected at baseline visit during 2009–2010 were analyzed.<p></p>\ud \ud Results:\ud The mean HR was 67.7 ± 9.5 and 66.9 ± 10.7 bpm when measured by pulse palpation and electrocardiography, respectively. HR …
Uptake from water, biotransformation, and biliary excretion of pharmaceuticals by rainbow trout.
2011
An urgent need exists to assess the exposure of fish to pharmaceuticals. The aim of the present study was to assess the uptake and metabolism of waterborne pharmaceuticals in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). A further objective was to determine the possibility of monitoring exposure to low levels of pharmaceuticals by bile assays. Rainbow trout were exposed for 10 d under flow-through conditions to mixtures of five pharmaceuticals (diclofenac, naproxen, ibuprofen, bisoprolol, and carbamazepine) at high and low concentrations. The low concentration was used to mimic the conditions prevailing in the vicinity of the discharge points of wastewater treatment plants. The uptake and the biocon…
Beta adrenoblokatoru izvēle asinsrites sistēmas slimību ārstēšanā un to patēriņš Latvijā salīdzinājumā ar citām valstīm
2016
