Resonant Raman scattering in self-assembledGaN∕AlNquantum dots

2006

Self-assembled $\mathrm{Ga}\mathrm{N}∕\mathrm{Al}\mathrm{N}$ quantum dots have been investigated by means of Raman scattering. A resonant enhancement of the Raman peaks has been observed when the excitation is tuned above the GaN band-gap energy. The polar mode nature, either quasiconfined or interfacial, has been assigned after comparing with the polar optical modes of spheroidal dots calculated within the framework of the anisotropic dielectric continuum model. The built-in strain of the GaN dots induced a substantial blueshift of the nonpolar ${E}_{2H}$ Raman mode frequency. A theoretical model that analyzes the three-dimensional strain distribution in the quantum dots has been employed …

Spectral anomalies in supercontinuum focused waves

2006

The diffraction-induced spectral anomalies in the focal plane of an apertured spherical wave with supercontinuum flat-top power spectrum are investigated. Coherent broadband radiation (also incoherent white light) demonstrates a strong blue shift in the vicinity of the optical axis, and discrete spectral gaps with overall red shift arise out of this central region. Unlike narrow-band light, the spectral switch effect fades away with ultra-broad spectra.

Fluctuating laser field that induces a blueshift in harmonic generation

1998

The spectrum of a two-level atom in the presence of a multimode laser pulse is calculated. The field is allowed to fluctuate in amplitude or in phase; the emitted spectrum has richer emission lines than in the case of the nonfluctuating field and shows peaks shifted toward the blue with respect to the traditional harmonic peaks. The position of the lines is predicted by the formula ω2n+1=(2n+1)(1+Δ)ωL with Δ being a parameter that can be found numerically. In this way the fluctuations seem to result in an effective increase of the laser frequency.

Chandra X-ray spectroscopy of a clear dip in GX 13+1

2014

The source GX 13+1 is a persistent, bright Galactic X-ray binary hosting an accreting neutron star. It shows highly ionized absorption features, with a blueshift of $\sim$ 400 km s$^{-1}$ and an outflow-mass rate similar to the accretion rate. Many other X-ray sources exhibit warm absorption features, and they all show periodic dipping behavior at the same time. Recently, a dipping periodicity has also been determined for GX 13+1 using long-term X-ray folded light-curves, leading to a clear identification of one of such periodic dips in an archival Chandra observation. We give the first spectral characterization of the periodic dip of GX 13+1 found in this archival Chandra observation perfo…

A randomized controlled trial of intervention in fear of childbirth*1

2001

Abstract OBJECTIVE: To compare intensive and conventional therapy for severe fear of childbirth. METHODS: In Finland, 176 women who had fear of childbirth were randomly assigned at the 26th gestational week to have either intensive therapy (mean 3.8 ± 1.0 sessions with obstetrician and one with midwife) or conventional therapy (mean 2.0 ± 0.6 sessions), with follow-up 3 months postpartum. Pregnancy-related anxiety and concerns, satisfaction with childbirth, and puerperal depression were assessed with specific questionnaires. Power analysis, based on previous studies, showed that 74 women per group were necessary to show a 50% reduction in cesarean rates. RESULTS: Birth-related concerns decr…

Meanings of travel in the musical discourse of blues: Roosevelt “Grey Ghost” Williams and “Lonesome Traveller”

2016

Charakterystyka Palczatki Gerarda (Andropogon gerardi) jako rośliny energetycznej

2017

Dodatkowo, zostały porównane koszty założenia plantacji w stosunku do wierzby krzewi…

Divorcing after Holidays

2016

Divorcing is a common-place practices that characterized our modern daily life. What is more than interesting to explore is why one of third takes after holidays. Are holidays accelerating the social decomposition the founding parents of sociology denounced in earlier century? or simply, as Maccannell puts it, tourism serves as a valve (mechanism) of cohesion similarly to the role played by religion/totems in primitive societies? To answer these questions, we present statistical information given by the Dirección General de Estadística y Censos (Ministerio de Hacienda GCBA). Although this information had its own limitations, which suggests more investigation is needed, we strongly beliefs t…

Effect of t-BuS vs. n-BuS on the topology, Cu⋯Cu distances and luminescence properties of 2D Cu4I4/RS(CH2)4SR metal–organic frameworks

2011

CuI reacts with RS(CH2)4SR (R = n-Bu (L1); t-Bu (L2)) to afford the 2D coordination polymers [Cu4I4{μ-RS(CH2)4SR}2]n (R = n-Bu (1); t-Bu (2)). Their grid networks exhibit nodal Cu4(μ3-I)4 clusters interconnected by dithioethers with mean Cu⋯Cu distances of 2.7265(10) and 2.911(2) A for 1 and 2, respectively. This difference translates in a blue shift of the solid state emission bands and a decrease in emission lifetimes when trading R = n-Bu to the bulky t-Bu.
