The Genome of Cardinium cBtQ1 Provides Insights into Genome Reduction, Symbiont Motility, and Its Settlement in Bemisia tabaci
2014
International audience; Many insects harbor inherited bacterial endosymbionts. Although some of them are not strictly essential and are considered facultative, they can be a key to host survival under specific environmental conditions, such as parasitoid attacks, climate changes, or insecticide pressures. The whitefly Bemisia tabaci is at the top of the list of organisms inflicting agricultural damage and outbreaks, and changes in its distribution may be associated to global warming. In this work, we have sequenced and analyzed the genome of Cardinium cBtQ1, a facultative bacterial endosymbiont of B. tabaci and propose that it belongs to a new taxonomic family, which also includes Candidatu…
Adaptation of microphysical and chemical instrumentation to the airborne measuring platform Iljushin I1-18 ‘Cyclone’ and flight regime planning durin…
1997
Abstract In 1993 the joint Russian-German Research Project ‘Arctic Haze’ started (see the Introduction and editorial note of this issue, by Jaenicke, Khattatov, Jaeschke and Leiterer). Besides CAO, four German groups were involved. To the present three airborne measuring campaigns have been performed. In total 251 h of flight within altitudes up to 8.7 km were flown in the western and eastern part of the arctic leading to a comprehensive set of data of the northern arctic hemisphere. The measurements were conducted aboard the Russian research aircraft I1-18 ‘Cyclone’ which was used by CAO in numerous scientific projects mainly in the former USSR. This 4 engined turboprop aircraft is well eq…
Systemische fibrinolytische Therapie mit Urokinase bei Zentralarterienverschluss der Netzhaut
2005
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Systemic fibrinolysis has become an important therapeutical option in patients with thrombotic occlusion of coronary or pulmonary arteries. In view of the hemorrhagic risk systemic fibrinolytic therapy for retinal vessel occlusion has been discussed controversial. In the present case study results and complications of systemic fibrinolysis should be investigated in patients with central retinal artery occlusion. PATIENTS AND METHODS From 1995 to 2002 a case series of 19 consecutive patients (8 female, 11 male, age: 63.2+/-14,3 years) with central retinal artery occlusion were treated by systemic application of urokinase using a standardized scheme. The latency from …
Superior mesenteric vein thrombosis following open right hemicolectomy and cholecystectomy. Case report
2020
From the Field to the Laboratory: Quantifying Outdoor Mosquito Landing Rate to Better Evaluate Topical Repellents.
2021
Abstract Vector-borne diseases are a worldwide threat to human health. Often, no vaccines or treatments exist. Thus, personal protection products play an essential role in limiting transmission. The World Health Organization (WHO) arm-in-cage (AIC) test is the most common method for evaluating the efficacy of topical repellents, but it remains unclear whether AIC testing conditions recreate the mosquito landing rates in the field. This study aimed to estimate the landing rate outdoors, in an area of Europe highly infested with the Asian tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus (Skuse, 1894, Diptera: Culididae)), and to determine how to replicate this rate in the laboratory. To assess the landing ra…

2011
The Constitutive Androstane Receptor (CAR) belongs to the subfamily of nuclear receptors NR1. Initially described as an orphan receptor, CAR is activated by a large number of exogenous molecules and acts as a xenosensor. The activation of CAR by these ligands stimulates transcription of phase I, II and III enzymes required for the detoxification and elimination of xenobiotics. Furthermore CAR is also involved in the metabolism of endogenous molecules such as bile acids, bilirubin or thyroid hormones. CAR has recently been the subject of numerous independent studies that have highlighted his involvement in major metabolic pathways including gluconeogenesis, lipogenesis and lipoprotein metabo…
Etude physiopathologique de la réponse immunitaire au cours de la thrombopénie immunologique (purpura thrombopénique immunologique)
2010
Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune disease responsible for a peripheral immune destruction of platelets associated with an inappropriate bone marrow production. In this work, we first review the mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of ITP. We also focus on the T cell immune response, highlighting the key role of regulatory T cells (Treg) in peripheral tolerance. The implication of the spleen in the immune response and the effects of rituximab, a B cell depleting therapy, are discussed. Then, our results obtained from 40 ITP patients are reported. Despite the fact that CD4+CD25HighFoxp3+ circulating Treg levels are similar between patients and controls, a significant increase …
Theoretical study of the interaction between carbon nanotubes and carboplatin anticancer molecules
2015
International audience; Full DFT calculations were carried out to study the interactions between single-wall functionalized carbon-based metallic nanotubes (CNTs) and carboplatin anticancer drugs. The geometry of the CNT-carboplatin was optimized considering different molecular configurations on inner and outer surfaces of the nanotubes. Simulation results show that the most stable physisorption state for molecules is to be located inside the nanotubes in a parallel configuration. Furthermore{,} we demonstrated that the molecular physisorption was reinforced as soon as the number of encapsulated carboplatin molecules increased{,} leading to a favored state where the nanovector is filled by …
Analogical and Digital Workflow in the Design and Preparation of the Emergence Profile of Biologically Oriented Preparation Technique (BOPT) Crowns o…
2019
: The Biologically Oriented Preparation Technique (BOPT), developed by Ignacio Loi and published in 2008, is a consolidated concept in the modeling and preservation of pericoronal soft tissues. The present study describes the analogical and digital methods allowing adequate design and preparation of the emergence profile of BOPT crowns in the working model, with a view to comparing the workflow and advantages of each method. At present, not all the digital procedures have been fully optimized to completely replace the traditional analogical methods. Nevertheless, it is only a matter of time until dental digitalization technology totally replaces the analogical clinical methods. The digital …
