Intrinsic Viscosities of Polyelectrolytes: Determination and Modeling of the Effects of Extra Salt
2011
Based on early measurements of J. J. Hermans and co-workers (D. T. F. Pals, J. J. Hermans, Recl. Trav. Chim. Pays-Bas 1952, 71, 513-520; D. T. F. Pals, J. J. Hermans, J. Polym. Sci. 1950, 5, 733-734; D. T. F. Pals, J. J. Hermans, J. Polym. Sci. 1948, 3, 897-898), the present contribution demonstrates how primary data should be evaluated in order to obtain reliable intrinsic viscosities. This procedure yields detailed information on the changes of the intrinsic viscosities and of the corresponding viscometric interaction parameters caused by an increasing salinity of water. Both quantities decline from a maximum value in the pure solvent to a minimum value, which is approached in the limit o…
ECG Analysis for Ventricular Fibrillation Detection Using a Boltzmann Network
2015
Arrhythmias consist on electrical alterations in the heart beat control. They can be identified by means of surface ECG leads. The main goal of this work is to provide a signal classification based on ECG signal waveform in the time-frequency domain especially targeted to Ventricular Fibrillation detection. The use of a classifier based on a Boltzmann network is proposed. However, a previous signal preprocessing is also required so that the Boltzmann network is fed with the appropriate data. In this case, an R-wave detector is used; after that, the Pseudo Wigner-Ville time-frequency distribution is obtained. This distribution is used to train and test the network, which handles it as an ima…
ChemInform Abstract: Assignment of the Absolute Configuration and Total Synthesis of (+)-Caripyrin.
2015
The antifungal secondary metabolite (+)-caripyrin was studied by vibrational circular dichroism spectroscopy. Analysis of the recorded data, with the Boltzmann weighted-average of the spectra calculated at the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level of theory for all relevant conformers, unequivocally proved the (R,R)-configuration for the dextrorotatory natural product. Based on this finding, a short enantioselective synthesis of (+)-caripyrin was developed.
A novel approach to nonlinear variable-order fractional viscoelasticity.
2020
This paper addresses nonlinear viscoelastic behaviour of fractional systems with variable time-dependent fractional order. In this case, the main challenge is that the Boltzmann linear superposition principle, i.e. the theoretical basis on which linear viscoelastic fractional operators are formulated, does not apply in standard form because the fractional order is not constant with time. Moving from this consideration, the paper proposes a novel approach where the system response is derived by a consistent application of the Boltzmann principle to an equivalent system, built at every time instant based on the fractional order at that instant and the response at all the previous ones. The ap…
