The visual principle and the correlation between teaching of the Catholic religion and art education in Polish school
2017
Contemporary culture – as already noted – is becoming more and more visual. Contemporary catechesis, referring to its rich, centuries-long experience, should also use different types of images. The first part of this article presents the visual principle as one of basic educating principles, and the second part presents the correlation between the teaching of Catholic religion, and art education in Polish schools. One specific example of using religious painting are in textbooks. Masterpieces of painting, created during centuries and expressing particular desires of their creators, still remain an important inspiration, among others, to the religious search. Faith, though strongly anchored …
UN PAÍS MÁS EXTRANJERO QUE LA CHINA: LIBROS ESPAÑOLES EN LAS LIBRERÍAS PARISINAS DEL SIGLO XVIII
2018
The image of Spain in 18th century Europe, and in Paris in particular, could be described as bittersweet. Despite the shared dynastic ties of France and Spain, and a few scattered and short-lived attempts by some intellectuals and journals to offer a benevolent image of Spain, the Parisians of the day continued to regard Spain as a country barely modern, a victim of its own inaction and subject to the rigours of the Inquisition. We are aware of these stereotypes thanks largely to literary works. This is not necessarily the case with bibliographic sources. If we are to clarify the «image» of Spain, we need to go down into the street and consider how people saw, or rather read about, the coun…
1969
This article examines the contribution of education in the construction of the culture of peace in 11 educational textbooks for primary students, which were edited in the Autonomous Community of Cataluña in 2009, given that the area is the most explicitly linked to peace. A documentary study was carried out by way of the comparative methodology, along with an analysis of the content through the use of a previously designed and validated instrument favored by independent evaluators. The results show certain gaps: the absence of the word “peace” in 63 per cent of the books; inattention to the past and the future (absent in 38.5 and 72.7 per cent, respectively); a lack of participative and dem…

The teacher of physical education in primary textbooks
2019

Narrating Selves amid Library Shelves : Literary Mediation and Demediation in S. by J. J. Abrams and Doug Dorst
2019
This essay focuses on the various forms of narrating, mediating, and interpreting selves within and around a book object, the novel S. (2013) by J. J. Abrams and Doug Dorst. The novel S. is an experiment in producing a deceivingly realistic replica of a maltreated library book object, but its discursive practices also rely on familiar literary forms, harking back to epistolary commonplaces, as well as to marginalia, both ancient and modern. The book object S., which carries the text of the novel-within-a-novel, the readers' multilayered markings, and paraphernalia, forms an archive dramatizing the workings of memory, thought, and emotion. That archive also demonstrates how the characters co…
