BEM application on an external problem comparison with both theoretical and finite elements results and observations on divergence strip

Abstract By means of a computer program the Boundary Element Method is applied to a central hole in an undefined plate with uniform load along the boundary. Results are compared with those obtained by Kirsch's theoretical solution and a previous analysis by the Finite Element Method. The calculus of percentage error shows the advantage of the Boundary Element Method on the external problem with regard to the Finite Element Method. The error causes near the boundary internal points are analysed with the existence of a strip, where the result is not reliable in evidence.
Modelling of Pe C alloys solidification using the artificial heat source method

Abstract In the paper the numerical solutions concerning the cast iron and also the carbon steel solidification are presented. In order to take into account the non-linearities appearing in differential equations describing the boundary-initial problem considered — a certain algorithm called the artificial heat source method has been used. The examples illustrating the possibilities of proposed method applications have been solved by means of the boundary element method, but the others numerical methods can be also utilized.
Magneto-Electro-Elastic Bimorph Analysis by the Boundary Element Method

The influence of the magnetic configuration on the behavior of magneto-electro-elastic bimorph beams is analyzed by using a boundary element approach. The problem is formulated by using the generalized displacements and generalized tractions. The boundary integral equation formulation is obtained by extending the reciprocity theorem to magneto-electro-elastic problems; it is numerically implemented by using the boundary element method multidomain technique to address problems involving nonhomogeneous configurations. We investigate the existence and the number of solutions for a third order boundary value problem with nonlocal boundary conditions in connection with the oscillatory behavior of solutions. The combination of the shooting method and scaling method is used in the proofs of our main results. Examples are included to illustrate the results.
Numerical model of macro-segregation during directional crystallization process

Abstract In the paper the mathematical model of macro-segregation proceeding during the directional crystallization process is presented. The boundary-initial problem considered is discussed. Next the numerical approximation constructed on the basis of the boundary element method supplemented by a procedure called the artificial heat source method is described. The boundary condition on the solidification front resulting from the alloy component balance is introduced, while in finally the practical aspects of computations concerning the course of the process are discussed.

A three-dimensional (3D) boundary element method for small strains crystal plasticity is described. The method, developed for polycrystalline aggregates, makes use of a set of boundary integral equations for modeling the individual grains, which are represented as anisotropic elasto-plastic domains. Symmetric boundary element method versus finite element method

The paper examines the effectiveness of the symmetric boundary element formulation when the continuum body is subdivided into large elements called macro-elements. The approach proposed combines a strong reduction of variables with an elastic solution close to the real response. Indeed, if the displacement method is used, this approach permits one to determine for every macro-element a relationship connecting the weighted traction vector defined on the sides of the interface boundary with the node displacement vector of the same boundary and with the external action vector. Abstract The paper has as objective the estimation of the error in the structural analysis performed by using the displacement approach of the Symmetric Galerkin Boundary Element Method (SGBEM) and suggests a strategy able to reduce this error through an appropriate change of the boundary discretization.
