The perturbation classes problem for closed operators
2017
We compare the perturbation classes for closed semi-Fredholm and Fredholm operators with dense domain acting between Banach spaces with the corresponding perturbation classes for bounded semi-Fredholm and Fredholm operators. We show that they coincide in some cases, but they are different in general. We describe several relevant examples and point out some open problems.
Some kind of Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property
2016
In this paper we introduce two Bishop–Phelps–Bollobas type properties for bounded linear operators between two Banach spaces X and Y: property 1 and property 2. These properties are motivated by a Kim–Lee result which states, under our notation, that a Banach space X is uniformly convex if and only if the pair (X,K) satisfies property 2. Positive results of pairs of Banach spaces (X,Y) satisfying property 1 are given and concrete pairs of Banach spaces (X,Y) failing both properties are exhibited. A complete characterization of property 1 for the pairs (lp,lq) is also provided.

Hahn-Banach theorem, Baire’s theorem, uniform boundedness principle, closed graph theorem, weak topologies, Banach-Alaoglu theorem, unconditional basis, Banach sequence spaces, summing operators, factorable operators, cotype, Kahane inequality.
Weyl-Type Theorems
2018
In the previous chapters we introduced several classes of operators which have their origin in Fredholm theory. We also know that the spectrum of a bounded linear operator T on a Banach space X can be split into subsets in many different ways.
Bounded compositions on scaling invariant Besov spaces
2012
For $0 < s < 1 < q < \infty$, we characterize the homeomorphisms $: \real^n \to \real^n$ for which the composition operator $f \mapsto f \circ $ is bounded on the homogeneous, scaling invariant Besov space $\dot{B}^s_{n/s,q}(\real^n)$, where the emphasis is on the case $q\not=n/s$, left open in the previous literature. We also establish an analogous result for Besov-type function spaces on a wide class of metric measure spaces as well, and make some new remarks considering the scaling invariant Triebel-Lizorkin spaces $\dot{F}^s_{n/s,q}(\real^n)$ with $0 < s < 1$ and $0 < q \leq \infty$.
Spatial Besov regularity for stochastic partial differential equations on Lipschitz domains
2010
We use the scale of Besov spaces B^\alpha_{\tau,\tau}(O), \alpha>0, 1/\tau=\alpha/d+1/p, p fixed, to study the spatial regularity of the solutions of linear parabolic stochastic partial differential equations on bounded Lipschitz domains O\subset R^d. The Besov smoothness determines the order of convergence that can be achieved by nonlinear approximation schemes. The proofs are based on a combination of weighted Sobolev estimates and characterizations of Besov spaces by wavelet expansions.
Method for Computing Scattering Matrices
2021
Chapter 4 presents statement and justification of a method for approximate computing a waveguide scattering matrix. As an approximation to a row of such a matrix, a minimizer of a quadratic functional is suggested. To construct the functional, one has to solve a boundary value problem in a bounded domain obtained by cutting off the cylindrical ends of the waveguide at distance R. The minimizer tends to the scattering matrix row at exponential rate as R increases to infinity.
Control of essential supremum of solutions of quasilinear degenerate parabolic equations
2001
Sufficient conditions are obtained so that a weak subsolution of a class of quasilinear degenerate parabolic equations, bounded from above on theparabolic boundary of the cylinder Q, turns out to be bounded from above in Q.
Social Networks and Labour–Education Market System
2015
Two facts about human beings are widely accepted: they are social creatures and they behave in a bounded rational way. In particular, this results in substantial use of social networks in individual decision-making. Before dealing with the issues of modelling individual behaviour in the labour–education market system, we have to recall some empirical facts known from the literature about this behaviour. This is exactly what this chapter provides.
State Estimation of a Mobile Manipulator via Non-uniformly Sampled Position Measurements
2011
Abstract We derive an exact deterministic nonlinear estimator to compute the continuous state of a nonlinear time-varying system based on discrete, non uniformly time spaced, state measurements. The system consists of a robot arm mounted on a mobile non holonomic vehicle. The paper also discusses the effect on the estimation error of a bounded input additive noise.
