Search for anomalous production of prompt like-sign muon pairs and constraints on physics beyond the Standard Model with the ATLAS detector
2012
An inclusive search for anomalous production of two prompt, isolated muons with the same electric charge is presented. The search is performed in a data sample corresponding to 1.6 fb−1 of integrated luminosity collected in 2011 at √s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Muon pairs are selected by requiring two isolated muons of the same electric charge with pT>20 GeV and |η|<2.5. Minimal requirements are placed on the rest of the event activity. The distribution of the invariant mass of the muon pair m(μμ) is found to agree well with the background expectation. Upper limits on the cross section for anomalous production of two muons with the same electric charge are placed as a func…
Investigation of Gamma Rays from the36S(p,γ)37Cl Reaction
1973
The excitation curve of the 36S(p,γ)37Cl reaction has been measured in the proton energy range 1 000-1 900 keV. 109 resonances were observed. The decay schemes for 13 resonances and energies and branching ratios of 15 bound states have been obtained by means of Ge(Li) detectors. Seven of the bound states have not been reported earlier. Lifetimes or lifetime limits of 5 bound states have been measured by means of Doppler-shift attenuation method.
Direct Measurement of the Branching Fractions B(ψ(3686)→J/ψX) and B(ψ(3770)→J/ψX) , and Observation of the State R(3760) in e+e−→J/ψX
2021
We report a measurement of the observed cross sections of e + e - → J / ψ X based on 3.21 fb - 1 of data accumulated at energies from 3.645 to 3.891 GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider. In analysis of the cross sections, we measured the decay branching fractions of B ( ψ ( 3686 ) → J / ψ X ) = ( 64.4 ± 0.6 ± 1.6 ) % and B ( ψ ( 3770 ) → J / ψ X ) = ( 0.5 ± 0.2 ± 0.1 ) % for the first time. The energy-dependent line shape of these cross sections cannot be well described by two Breit-Wigner (BW) amplitudes of the expected decays ψ ( 3686 ) → J / ψ X and ψ ( 3770 ) → J / ψ X . Instead, it can be better described with one more BW amplitude of the decay R ( 3760 ) → J / …
α -decay spectroscopy of the N=130 isotones Ra218 and Th220 : Mitigation of α -particle energy summing with implanted nuclei
2019
© 2019 American Physical Society. An analysis technique has been developed in order to mitigate energy summing due to sequential short-lived α decays from nuclei implanted into a silicon detector. Using this technique, α-decay spectroscopy of the N=130 isotones Ra218 (Z=88) and Th220 (Z=90) has been performed. The energies of the α particles emitted in the Ra218→Rn214 and Th220→Ra216 ground-state-to-ground-state decays have been measured to be 8381(4) keV and 8818(13) keV, respectively. The half-lives of the ground states of Ra218 and Th220 have been measured to be 25.99(10) μs and 10.4(4) μs, respectively. The half-lives of the ground states of the α-decay daughters, Rn214 and Ra216, have …
Measurement of the Branching Fraction and Polarization for the DecayB−→D*0K*−
2004
We present a study of the decay B- --> D*K-0*(-) based on a sample of 86 X 10(6) Y(4S) --> B (B) over bar decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We measure the branching fraction 23(B- --> D*K-0*(-)) = (8.3 +/- 1.1(stat) +/- 1.0(syst)) X 10(-4), and the fraction of longitudinal polarization in this decay to be Gamma(L)/Gamma = 0.86 +/- 0.06(stat) --> +/- 0.03(syst).
Measurement of Branching Fractions and Mass Spectra of B→Kππγ
2007
We present a measurement of the partial branching fractions and mass spectra of the exclusive radiative penguin processes B → K π π γ in the range m K π π < 1.8 GeV / c 2 . We reconstruct four final states: K + π − π + γ , K + π − π 0 γ , K 0 S π − π + γ , and K 0 S π + π 0 γ , where K 0 S → π + π − . Using 232 × 10 6 e + e − → B ¯¯¯ B events recorded by the BABAR experiment at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy storage ring, we measure the branching fractions B ( B + → K + π − π + γ ) = [ 2.95 ± 0.13 ( stat ) ± 0.20 ( syst ) ] × 10 − 5 , B ( B 0 → K + π − π 0 γ ) = [ 4.07 ± 0.22 ( stat ) ± 0.31 ( syst ) ] × 10 − 5 , B ( B 0 → K 0 π + π − γ ) = [ 1.85 ± 0.21 ( stat ) ± 0.12 ( syst ) ] × …
Measurement of the 2+→0+ ground-state transition in the β decay of F20
2019
We report the first detection of the second-forbidden, nonunique, 2+→0+, ground-state transition in the β decay of F20. A low-energy, mass-separated F+20 beam produced at the IGISOL facility in Jyvaskyla, Finland, was implanted in a thin carbon foil and the β spectrum measured using a magnetic transporter and a plastic-scintillator detector. The β-decay branching ratio inferred from the measurement is bβ=[0.41±0.08(stat)±0.07(sys)]×10-5 corresponding to logft=10.89(11), making this one of the strongest second-forbidden, nonunique β transitions ever measured. The experimental result is supported by shell-model calculations and has significant implications for the final evolution of stars tha…
Measurements of the absolute branching fractions forDs+→ηe+νeandDs+→η′e+νe
2016
By analyzing 482 pb(-1) of e(+)e(-) collision data collected at root s = 4.009 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the absolute branching fractions for the semileptonic decays D-s(+) -> eta e(+)nu(e) and D-s(+) -> eta ' e(+)nu(e) to be B(D-s(+) -> eta e(+)nu(e)) = (2.30 +/- 0.31 +/- 0.08)% and B(D-s(+) -> eta ' e(+)nu(e)) = (0.93 +/- 0.30 +/- 0.05)%, respectively, and their ratio B(D-s(+) -> eta ' e(+)nu(e)) / B(D-s(+) -> eta ' e(+)nu(e)) = 0.40 +/- 0.14 +/- 0.02, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The results are in good agreement with previous measurements within uncertainties; they can be used to determine the eta…
Amplitude Analysis of theB±→φK*(892)±Decay
2007
We perform an amplitude analysis of B-+/-->phi(1020)K-*(892)(+/-) decay with a sample of about 384x10(6) B (B) over bar pairs recorded with the BABAR detector. Overall, twelve parameters are measured, including the fractions of longitudinal f(L) and parity-odd transverse f(perpendicular to) amplitudes, branching fraction, strong phases, and six parameters sensitive to CP violation. We use the dependence on the K pi invariant mass of the interference between the J(P)=1(-) and 0(+) K pi components to resolve the discrete ambiguity in the determination of the strong and weak phases. Our measurements of f(L)=0.49 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.03, f(perpendicular to)=0.21 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.02, and the strong phas…
Observation ofe+e−→γX(3872)at BESIII
2014
Using data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider at center-of-mass energies of root s = 4.23, 4.26, and 4.36 GeV, we observe e(+)e(-) -> pi(0)pi(0)h(c) for the first time. The Born cross sections are measured and found to be about half of those of e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-)h(c) within less than 2 sigma. In the pi(0)h(c) mass spectrum, a structure at 4.02 GeV/c(2) is found. It is most likely to be the neutral isospin partner of the Z(c)(4020)(+/-) observed in the process of e(+)e(-) -> pi(+)pi(-)h(c) being found. A fit to the pi(0)h(c) invariant mass spectrum, with the width of the Z(c)(4020)(0) fixed to that of its charged isospin partner and pos…
