J/ψsuppression at forward rapidity in Au+Au collisions atsNN=200GeV

2011

Heavy quarkonia are observed to be suppressed in relativistic heavy-ion collisions relative to their production in p + p collisions scaled by the number of binary collisions. In order to determine if this suppression is related to color screening of these states in the produced medium, one needs to account for other nuclear modifications including those in cold nuclear matter. In this paper, we present new measurements from the PHENIX 2007 data set of J/psi yields at forward rapidity (1.2 < vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.2) in Au + Au collisions at root s(NN) = 200 GeV. The data confirm the earlier finding that the suppression of J/. at forward rapidity is stronger than at midrapidity, whi…

Proton-Deuteron Elastic Scattering for E > 0

1999

We report on the first reliable numerical results for proton-deuteron elastic scattering observables for energies above the deuteron breakup thresh- old, for the Paris potential. The calculations have been performed within the screening and renormalisation approach. The theoretical results are compared with recent experimental data.

Coulomb effects in deuteron breakup by proton impact

1994

We present the first results of a calculation of kinematically complete differential cross sections for the proton-induced deuteron breakup reaction, obtained by using a three-body formalism based on momentum space integral equations which correctly takes into account the Coulomb repulsion between the two protons. Comparison with experimental data is made.

Peregrine soliton generation and breakup in standard telecommunications fiber

2011

International audience; We present experimental and numerical results showing the generation and breakup of the Peregrine soliton in standard telecommunications fiber. The impact of non-ideal initial conditions is studied through direct cut back measurements of the longitudinal evolution of the emerging soliton dynamics, and is shown to be associated with the splitting of the Peregrine soliton into two subpulses, with each subpulse itself exhibiting Peregrine soliton characteristics. Experimental results are in good agreement with simulations.

A wind tunnel study of the effects of collision processes on the shape and oscillation for moderate-size raindrops

2014

Abstract Drop–drop collision experiments were carried out at the Mainz vertical wind tunnel. Water drops of 2.5 mm diameter were freely floated at their terminal velocities in a vertical air stream and collided with 0.5 mm diameter droplets. The collisions were recorded with a high speed digital video camera at a frame rate of 1000 per second. Altogether 116 collision events were observed, 75 of which ended with coalescence, and the rest with filament type breakup. The coalescence efficiency and its dependence on the Weber number and on the eccentricity of the colliding drops showed good agreement with earlier numerical studies. Thirty-six recorded collisions were further analyzed in order …

Proton-induced deuteron breakup reaction2H(p, pp)n

1994

The “screening and renormalization” approach allows for a mathematically correct incorporation, in three-body scattering theory, of the long-ranged Coulomb interaction between charged particles. It is based on first calculating the transition amplitudes using screened Coulomb potentials. Then, after renormalization the zero-screening limit, leading to the amplitudes pertaining to unscreened Coulomb potentials, is performed numerically. Within this formalism the proton-induced breakup of deuterons is investigated, with the Coulomb repulsion between the two protons taken into account. Kinematically complete differential cross sections in various kinematic configurations are calculated and com…

From Halo Effective Field Theory to the study of breakup and transfer reactions: reliably probing the halo structure of 11 Be and 15 C

2020

Abstract In this work we study one-neutron halo nuclei, and in particular 11Be and 15C, which can be seen as an inert core of 10Be or 14C plus a loosely bound neutron. During the last decades several transfer and breakup reactions involving these systems have been measured on different targets and energies. We study these processes using one single structure model for each nucleus applying the halo effective field theory (Halo EFT) at next-to-leading order NLO. The main parameters of this EFT are adjusted on nuclear-structure data and/or ab initio predictions. We model the transfer reaction within the Adiabatic Distorted Wave Approximation (ADWA) and the breakup process applying an eikonal …
