Is it really useful the Harmonic scalpel in axillary dissection for locally advanced breast cancer? A case series.

2017

Background. The seroma is one of the most common complications in the axillary lymph nodal dissection (different surgical approaches have been tried to reduce the seroma incidence). In our study we evaluate the outcome of patients using or not the ultrasonic scalpel (Harmonic scalpel) according to a standardized surgical technique. Patients and Methods. From January 2011 to December 2015 120 patients underwent axillary dissection for breast cancer. Patients were divided in two groups: patients belonging to the first group underwent Harmonic scalpel dissection and patients belonging to the second group underwent classical dissection. Each group consisted of 60 patients. Quadrantectomy (QUAD)…

Prospective randomized comparison of conventional instruments and the Harmonic Focus(®) device in breast-conserving therapy for primary breast cancer.

2011

Abstract Background In recent years, surgeons have utilized Harmonic instruments to perform breast cancer resection. Retrospective and prospective studies have demonstrated that the use of this surgical device for mastectomy and axillary dissection can reduce perioperative blood loss, seroma formation, and duration and total amount of drainage. No study has analyzed the feasibility of Harmonic instruments in breast-conserving surgery. We conducted a prospective, randomized clinical trial comparing Harmonic instrument and conventional surgery in the performance of breast-conserving surgery and axillary procedures to determine differences in surgical procedures, postoperative outcome, and com…

Does the use of fibrin glue prevent seroma formation after axillary lymphadenectomy for breast cancer? A prospective randomized trial in 159 patients.

2010

Background Seroma formation frequently occurs in patients who have undergone axillary lymphadenectomy. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of fibrin glue in the prevention of seroma formation after axillary lymphadenectomy. Materials and Methods Hundred fifty-nine breast cancer patients about to undergo quadrantectomy or mastectomy plus axillary lymphadenectomy were enrolled in the study and randomized into two groups. Fibrin glue spray applied to the axillary fossa plus placement of closed suction drainage were used in 80 patients (group A); placement of closed suction drainage was only used in 79 patients (group B). Results Group A patients showed a slight advantage with regar…

Morphea after silicone gel breast implantation for cosmetic reasons in an HLA-B8,DR3-positive woman

1997

We describe an HLA-B8, DR3-positive patient with localized morphea after silicone gel breast implantation for cosmetic reasons. We believe that this case suggests that a genetic background, i.e. HLA-B8, DR3 haplotype, is involved in the autoimmune response to silicone.

Arts and Aesthetics of Male Chest

2020

In the 2006 World Cup final, Italy were losing against France 1-0. In a moment of agitation, Zinedine Zidane, hero of the French national team, reacted to a verbal provocation from the Italian defender Materazzi by giving him a headbutt right in the chest. A furious gesture, the violation of the inviolable. The chest of man. The chest of the sportsman, the warrior, the hero; the chest of God. The point that symbolizes strength and protects the heart. Strength, beauty, and prowess have been concentrated at this point ever since ancient times.

Effects of zoledronic acid on proteinase plasma levels in patients with bone metastases.

2006

Background: The effects of the bisphosphonate derivative zoledronic acid (ZA) on the > circulating levels of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), matrix metallo-proteinases-9 > (MMP-9), cathepsin B (Cath B) and urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) in > patients with bone metastasis (BMTS) and the possible correlation with the symptomatic > response induced by this drug in these patients were evaluated. Patients and Methods: > Proteinase levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in the > plasma of 30 patients with painful bone metastases from breast or prostate cancer > undergoing multiple treatment with ZA (4 mg i.v., every 4 weeks). Assosiation between breastfeeding regimen and duration with the occurrence of infectious disesases in infants and toddlers

2021

Statistiskie test: x2, tests, regresijas tests, apr…

COVID-19 Vaccination in Pregnancy, Paediatrics, Immunocompromised Patients, and Persons with History of Allergy or Prior SARS-CoV-2 Infection: Overvi…

2021

To date, four vaccines have been authorised for emergency use and under conditional approval by the European Medicines Agency to prevent COVID-19: Comirnaty, COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen, Spikevax (previously COVID-19 Vaccine Moderna) and Vaxzevria (previously COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca). Although the benefit–risk profile of these vaccines was proven to be largely favourable in the general population, evidence in special cohorts initially excluded from the pivotal trials, such as pregnant and breastfeeding women, children/adolescents, immunocompromised people and persons with a history of allergy or previous SARS-CoV-2 infection, is still limited. In this narrative review, we critically overv…

Probiotics Properties: A Focus on Pregnancy Outcomes.

2021

A healthy microbiome plays an important role in the prevention of illness and maintenance of overall health, including reproductive health. Although the therapeutic advantages of probiotics have been shown to run across multiple organ systems, their role in pregnancy is not well explored. The aim of this review is to highlight the potential advantages and adverse effects of probiotics in pregnancy. Data were collected from the literature over the past decade using PubMed, Medline, Google Scholar, Ovid, Scopus, and Science Direct. A total of 40 articles were utilized in this review. Collected data indicated that prenatal and post-natal supplementation with lactobacilli alone or lactobacilli …
