Abstract The synthesis, X-ray structures and spectroscopic and magnetic properties are described for two groups of dinuclear Cu(II) compounds with the ligand 3-amino-1-propanol (Hap). The formulae of the compounds are for group A: [Cu(ap)(anion)]2, in which ap is the dehydronated Hap and the anions are formate, nitrate, chloride and bromide and for group B: [Cu(ap)(Hap)]2(anion)2, with anion = iodide, bromide, chloride, nitrate and tetrafluoroborate. We purified two catechol oxidases from Lycopus europaeus and Populus nigra which only catalyze the oxidation of catechols to quinones without hydroxylating tyrosine. The molecular mass of the Lycopus enzyme was determined to 39,800 Da and the mass of the Populus enzyme was determined to 56,050 Da. Both catechol oxidases are inhibited by thiourea, N-phenylthiourea, dithiocarbamate, and cyanide, but show different pH behavior using catechol as substrate. Atomic absorption spectrosopic analysis found 1.5 copper atoms per protein molecule. Using EPR spectroscopy we determined 1.8 Cu per molecule catechol oxidase. R-Curve Modelling of Mode I Delamination in Multidirectional Carbon/Epoxy Composite Laminates

In the present work, the mode I delamination behaviour of a quasi-isotropic quasi-homogeneous carbon/epoxy composite laminate with adjacent plies of 0o//45o is studied numerically. To describe the R-curve behaviour observed during crack propagation, a linear-exponential traction-separation law is proposed, where the fracture toughness and the increment in the fracture energy could be considered separately in the model. This model is then implemented in the finite element simulation of the delamination process in the composite laminate. Influence of fluorine on the fiber performance studied through the NBOHC-related 1.9 eV microluminescence

International audience; The distribution of Non Bridging Oxygen Hole Centers (NBOHC) in Fluorine doped optical fibers was investigated by confocal microluminescence spectroscopy monitoring the characteristic 1.9 eV luminescence band. The results show that these defects are generated by the fiber drawing and their concentration further increases after γ irradiation. The NBOHC profile along the fiber is anticorrelated to the fluorine content. This finding agrees with the role of fluorine in the fiber toughness and is discussed from the microscopic point of view on the basis of previous works.
