Purpose: To investigate the effect of applying an additional suture to enhance the biomechanical behavior of the suture–meniscus construct used during the transtibial pull- out repair technique. Methods: A total of 20 fresh-frozen porcine tibiae with intact medial menisci were used. In one half of all speci- mens (N = 10), two non-absorbable sutures were passed directly over the meniscal root from the tibia side of the meniscus to the femoral side (2SS). In other ten specimens, three sutures were passed over the meniscal root (3SS). All specimens were subjected to cyclic loading followed by load-to-failure testing. Bruns (1914) stated in Krause’s “General Neurosurgery” that brain tumors included all neoplasms growing within the cranial cavity and that these might be divided into three groups: (1) genuine tumors, (2) granulomatous lesions, and (3) parasites. Current use of the term “brain tumor” is more precise and limited to the first of L. Bruns’ categories. Even so, brain tumors represent a large and inhomoge-neous group. The comparison and evaluation of such a diverse set of observations is only possible after making a systematic classification of pertinent data.

Abstract Background Achilles tendon ruptures are becoming more common. Complications after open or minimally invasive surgery are: recurrent rupture (2–8%), wound breakdown, deep infections, granuloma, and fistulas. The authors expose their experience with a personal technique. Materials In 8 patients with acute rupture of Achilles tendon the surgery was performed at least 25 days after trauma. Clinical exam and MR demonstrated in all case a total lesion of tendon. After a posterolateral skin incision the tendon stumps were debrided and suture in end-to-end fashion. The lateral collateral ligament complex represents the primary lateral elbow ligament stabilizers. In cases of lateral elbow instability, surgical treatment is recommended. Repair should be anatomical and should restore stability to the elbow in order to permit an early active range of motion. Anatomic repair of soft tissue avulsions from bone can be performed with trans-osseous suture or suture anchors. Reconstruction may be required in severe cases and where primary repair is not possible. This chapter describes the surgical techniques for repair and reconstruction of the lateral collateral ligament of the elbow.
