Semiautomated quantification of the fibrous tissue response to complex three‐dimensional filamentous scaffolds using digital image analysis

Fibrosis represents a relevant response to the implantation of biomaterials, which occurs not only at the tissue-material interface (fibrotic encapsulation) but also within the void fraction of complex three-dimensional (3D) biomaterial constructions (fibrotic ingrowth). Usual evaluation of the biocompatibility mostly depicts fibrosis at the interface of the biomaterial using semiquantitative scores. Here, the relations between encapsulation and infiltrating fibrotic growth are poorly represented. Understanding Quantum Algorithms via Query Complexity

Query complexity is a model of computation in which we have to compute a function $f(x_1, \ldots, x_N)$ of variables $x_i$ which can be accessed via queries. The complexity of an algorithm is measured by the number of queries that it makes. Query complexity is widely used for studying quantum algorithms, for two reasons. First, it includes many of the known quantum algorithms (including Grover's quantum search and a key subroutine of Shor's factoring algorithm). Second, one can prove lower bounds on the query complexity, bounding the possible quantum advantage. A common fixed point theorem for two weakly compatible pairs in G-metric spaces using the property E.A

2013

In view of the fact that the fixed point theory provides an efficient tool in many fields of pure and applied sciences, we use the notion of the property E.A to prove a common fixed point theorem for weakly compatible mappings. The presented results are applied to obtain the solution of an integral equation and the bounded solution of a functional equation arising in dynamic programming.

A Suzuki type fixed point theorem for a generalized multivalued mapping on partial Hausdorff metric spaces

Abstract In this paper, we obtain a Suzuki type fixed point theorem for a generalized multivalued mapping on a partial Hausdorff metric space. As a consequence of the presented results, we discuss the existence and uniqueness of the bounded solution of a functional equation arising in dynamic programming.

Schaefer–Krasnoselskii fixed point theorems using a usual measure of weak noncompactness

Abstract We present some extension of a well-known fixed point theorem due to Burton and Kirk [T.A. Burton, C. Kirk, A fixed point theorem of Krasnoselskii–Schaefer type, Math. Nachr. 189 (1998) 423–431] for the sum of two nonlinear operators one of them compact and the other one a strict contraction. The novelty of our results is that the involved operators need not to be weakly continuous. Finally, an example is given to illustrate our results.

Set-Valued Hardy-Rogers Type Contraction in 0-Complete Partial Metric Spaces

In this paper we introduce set-valued Hardy-Rogers type contraction in 0-complete partial metric spaces and prove the corresponding theorem of fixed point. Our results generalize, extend, and unify several known results, in particular the recent Nadler’s fixed point theorem in the context of complete partial metric spaces established by Aydi et al. (2012). As an application of our results, a homotopy theorem for such mappings is derived. Also, some examples are included which show that our generalization is proper.

Chameleonic appearance of caseous calcification of the mitral valve – still a problem for its appropriate management

According to the research literature, the caseous calcification of the mitral annulus (CCMA) is a rare variant of the mitral annulus calcification (MAC) entity, described mostly in elderly women. The aim of this study was to present the case of a 53-year-old female patient with caseous calcification of the mitral valve annulus and posterior cusp, which was diagnosed as papillary fibroelastoma. An echo-dense and quasi-homogeneous tumoral mass, measuring 1.6/1.4 cm, at the level of the posterior mitral ring was detected by echocardiographic examination, as well as by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
