Evidence suggests an opportunistic entomophagous diet of the White Stork Ciconia ciconia in Sicily during breeding and post-breeding periods

Insects are known to represent a critical part of the White Stork Ciconia ciconia diet throughout its breeding range. Yet, the composition of the diet in the storks breeding in the Mediterranean regions remains poorly explored. Here, we investigated the diet of a population of white storks from Sicily through pellets collected in 2003, 2007, and 2020. A total of 1,928 prey items were identified and classified into six categories. Insects dominated the diet in all years and represented 99.06% of the whole prey number. Two orders of insects were mainly consumed, namely Orthoptera, which were the most frequent prey, followed by Coleoptera. Within these, carabid beetles were dominant, followed …

Kościół św. Barbary w Drogosławiu jako ważny ośrodek cecylianizmu na ziemi kłodzkiej

Idee reformy cecyliańskiej znalazły podatny grunt w Drogosławiu, gdzie w 1911 roku wybudowano kościół filialny ku czci św. Barbary. Dzięki działalności kantora i organisty Bruno Kiefela (1877–1955) po raz pierwszy w hrabstwie kłodzkim wprowadzono tu śpiew chorałowy z udziałem wiernych. Kiefel zasłynął też jako wirtuoz organowy i kompozytor. Na potrzeby utworzonego przez siebie w 1911 roku chóru kościelnego napisał kilkadziesiąt utworów, które cieszyły się dużą popularnością w regionie. Ważnymi wydarzeniami w dziejach miejscowości były walne zjazdy Stowarzyszenia Cecyliańskiego Hrabstwa Kłodzkiego w 1924 i 1933 roku. Ten ostatni połączono z jubileuszem 60-lecia związku. Approximate Taylor methods for ODEs

Abstract A new method for the numerical solution of ODEs is presented. This approach is based on an approximate formulation of the Taylor methods that has a much easier implementation than the original Taylor methods, since only the functions in the ODEs, and not their derivatives, are needed, just as in classical Runge–Kutta schemes. Compared to Runge–Kutta methods, the number of function evaluations to achieve a given order is higher, however with the present procedure it is much easier to produce arbitrary high-order schemes, which may be important in some applications. Capsule The post-reproductive stage of Lesser Kestrel is crucial for migratory fuelling and survival. Aims To describe the summer pre-migratory ecology of the Lesser Kestrel in Sicily and review existing data in Southern Europe. Methods We identified the main summer roosts and then made roost counts every ten days from 2010 to 2012. We used case-sensitive modelling procedures to detect biases in counts (generalized linear mixed models), assess the annual population trends from 2005 to 2012 (TRends and Indices for Monitoring); and to model habitat preferences (generalized linear model).
