Phenolic Acid-Mediated Regulation of the padC Gene, Encoding the Phenolic Acid Decarboxylase of Bacillus subtilis
2008
ABSTRACT In Bacillus subtilis , several phenolic acids specifically induce expression of padC , encoding a phenolic acid decarboxylase that converts these antimicrobial compounds into vinyl derivatives. padC forms an operon with a putative coding sequence of unknown function, yveFG , and this coding sequence does not appear to be involved in the phenolic acid stress response (PASR). To identify putative regulators involved in the PASR, random transposon mutagenesis, combined with two different screens, was performed. PadR, a negative transcriptional regulator of padC expression, was identified. padR is not located in the vicinity of padC , and the expression of padR is low and appears const…
Expression in Escherichia coli of Native and Chimeric Phenolic Acid Decarboxylases with Modified Enzymatic Activities and Method for Screening Recomb…
2001
ABSTRACT Four bacterial phenolic acid decarboxylases (PAD) from Lactobacillus plantarum , Pediococcus pentosaceus , Bacillus subtilis , and Bacillus pumilus were expressed in Escherichia coli , and their activities on p -coumaric, ferulic, and caffeic acids were compared. Although these four enzymes displayed 61% amino acid sequence identity, they exhibit different activities for ferulic and caffeic acid metabolism. To elucidate the domain(s) that determines these differences, chimeric PAD proteins were constructed and expressed in E. coli by exchanging their individual carboxy-terminal portions. Analysis of the chimeric enzyme activities suggests that the C-terminal region may be involved …
Algunas reflexiones acerca de la stjue de 9 de julio de 2020 sobre los pactos novatorios en materia de cláusulas suelo
2021
The Sentence of the Court of Justice of the European Union of July 9, 2020 comes to answer the five questions that, in its preliminary question, the Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 3 of Teruel asks about the validity of the new agreements in the context of the floor clauses, establishing jurisprudential doctrine on this matter about which our Supreme Court had previously ruled in its Judgments of October 16, 2017, in the sense of considering the agreed floor clause null as a consequence of the novation agreement and, subsequently, those of April 11, 2018 and September 13, 2018 in the opposite direction, declaring that the novation agreement was valid. It is a long-awaited and in…
Accounting meets economics: towards an ‘accounting view’ of money.
2018
Negative-pressure cavitation coupled with aqueous two-phase extraction and enrichment of flavonoids and stilbenes from the pigeon pea leaves and the …
2015
Abstract An efficient extraction method, negative-pressure cavitation coupled with aqueous two-phase extraction (NPC-ATPE), was developed to simultaneously extract and enrich flavonoids and stilbenes from pigeon pea leaves. The main bioactive compounds, cajaninstilbene acid (CSA), longistyline C (LLC), pinostrobin (PI) and pinostrobin chalcone (PIC) were chosen as target compounds. The extraction conditions were optimized using central composite design combined with response surface methodology. The optimized conditions were: concentration of (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 21% (w/w), concentration of ethanol 23% (w/w) and temperature 30 °C, negative pressure −0.06 MPa, extraction time 30 min and the liquid…
CtsR is the master regulator of stress response gene expression in Oenococcus oeni.
2005
ABSTRACT Although many stress response genes have been characterized in Oenococcus oeni , little is known about the regulation of stress response in this malolactic bacterium. The expression of eubacterial stress genes is controlled both positively and negatively at the transcriptional level. Overall, negative regulation of heat shock genes appears to be more widespread among gram-positive bacteria. We recently identified an ortholog of the ctsR gene in O. oeni . In Bacillus subtilis , CtsR negatively regulates expression of the clp genes, which belong to the class III family of heat shock genes. The ctsR gene of O. oeni is cotranscribed with the downstream clpC gene. Sequence analysis of t…

Use of semipermeable membrane devices for assessment of air quality in Tangier (Morocco)
2009
Semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs) have been used for the evaluation of the contamination of air in both the urban and the industrial area in Tangier (Morocco). Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene a...
Assessing air quality inside vehicles and at filling stations by monitoring benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes with the use of semipermeable …
2007
BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes) were used as target molecules to evaluate the quality of air inside motor vehicles and near filling stations, using semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs) as low-cost passive sampling devices. A direct, fast, simple methodology based on the use of headspace-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry detection (HS-GC-MS) was developed for BTEX determinations, without any sample pre-treatment. SPMDs (25.4 cm2 surface, filled with 100 microL triolein) were employed as static samplers. After the selected deployment time, the SPMDs were heated inside a HS vial at 150 degrees C for 20 min and BTEX compounds were determined by GC-MS in selected ion moni…
Connections of the West Pacific subtropical high and some hydroclimatic regimes in China with Antarctic ice-snow indices
1987
On the basis of 10 years monthly and long-term annual data the importance of the antarctic ice-snow cover and correlated indices has been discussed. By computing time-lag correlation analyses of the ice-snow indices and different atmospheric indices of the northern hemisphere and some hydroclimatic regimes in China, it could be shown that a close relationship between sea-ice in the Antarctic and the intensity and area indices of the subtropical West Pacific high exists. It was also possible to prove a close relationship between antarctic ice-snow indices and the annual run-off of the Yellow River at Sanmenxia, and between rainfall over North China and the lower sections of the Yellow river.
