Integración de restos arqueológicos Almohades en el metropolitano de Granada. La investigación multidisciplinar para el proyecto y desarrollo de infr…
2014
The execution of the Granada Metropolitan’s underground line made possible the discovery of archeological remains of a water tank in Alcázar Genil, a royal muslim residence of the 13th century. The water tank, 419 × 88 ft, was destroyed at its ends due to the growth of the city of Granada during the 20th century and today remains only its center section, under Camino de Ronda, exactly where the future Metropolitan will take place. The location of an underground station will allow the recovery, the integration and the exhibition of the archaeological remains of this water tank. The Alcázar Genil station project brings together the work of several disciplines which put in the same level engin…

Developing an economically advantageous wind forecasting method for electricity market design with a 15-minute imbalance settlement period
2019
According to legal framework developed by European Commission all EU Member States shall employ 15minute time resolution for imbalance settlement no later than 18th of December 2020 (or 1st of January 2025 in case of derogation). For intermittent energy sources that are traditionally associated with less precise generation forecasts this might result in considerable increase in imbalance costs. This presents a unique challenge for wind power station operators as there is lack of adequate forecasting tools supporting 15-minute time-resolution. The objective of this paper is to test and provide comparative analysis of alternative data interpolation methods in order to determine approach assoc…
Comparative evaluation of the effect of the substrate thickness and inherent process defects on the static and fatigue performance of FSW and adhesiv…
2021
Abstract This work aims at evaluating the mechanical performance of joints in an AA6016 alloy, manufactured by means of two alternative processes: friction stir welding and adhesive bonding. Given its wide use in industrial fields such as automotive and aeronautics, an overlap configuration of joints was selected for the study, and a specific method based on the overlap length evaluation has been developed to allow comparisons among the cases. Two substrate thicknesses are considered in order to vary the overall joint stiffness, and the effect of such geometrical parameter on the mechanical behavior of the joined system is experimentally investigated. The experimental findings highlight tha…
Physics based modelling of interface temperatures in machining with multilayer coated tools at moderate cutting speeds
2004
Abstract A new thermal model is presented for turning with tools with multilayer coatings. In the previous paper [Int. J. Mach. Tools Manuf. 43 (2003) 1311] devoted to the thermal problems in dry turning of steels with tools treated with multilayer coatings with an intermediate Al 2 O 3 layer new analytical models for estimating the heat partition to the chip and the average interface temperature were derived and the predictions were compared with experimental results. In this paper, a physics based modelling concept has been applied to both the individual layer and the composite layer approach to develop an estimate of the average and the maximum steady-state chip-tool interface temperatur…
Experimental characterization of a novel configuration of thermoelectric refrigerator with integrated finned heat pipes
2021
Abstract Thermoelectric refrigerating systems (TER) are environment-friendly technologies. They have several advantages such as low maintenance costs, are less cumbersome and long lifetime. However, these systems have low coefficient of performance and are limited in achieving low temperature levels. This study investigates a new configuration of TE refrigerator employing a novel arrangement of heat sinks with integrated flat and finned heat pipes. A mathematical model is firstly developed to predict transient temperatures and cooling limit time. An experimental characterization is then performed and it includes optimization of energy consumption, cooling time, temperature levels and TE ref…
Evaluation of building heating loads with dimensional analysis: Application of the Buckingham π theorem
2017
Abstract A detailed assessment of building energy performance requires a large amount of input data concerning building typology, environmental conditions, envelope thermophysical properties, geometry, control strategies, and several other parameters. Notwithstanding, the use of specialized software tools poses many challenges in regards to the retrieval of reliable and detailed information, setting a steep learning curve for engineers and energy managers. To speed up the preliminary assessment phase, it might be more convenient to resort to a simplified model that allows the evaluation of heating energy demand with a good level of accuracy and without excessive computational cost or user e…
Effect of material and geometric parameters on natural convection heat transfer over an eccentric annular-finned tube
2019
In this work, the performance of an eccentric annular finned tube heat exchanger under natural convection conditions has been investigated numerically. The objective of the study is to analyse the ...
The Websites of the Contrade
2017
This chapter presents and analyses the outgoing and incoming links of the contrade’s websites as a preface to the interpretative analysis of the following two chapters. The analysis suggests that the contrade inhabit , on the World Wide Web , places that create intimacy. This chapter proposes that the contrade appropriate and use new technologies as part of their processes of community building . They attempt to present themselves to various outsiders in a way that, on the surface, is uniform, but which, at a deeper level, is fragmented.
Reclaimed asphalt test specimen preparation assisted by image analysis
2015
This paper presents a laboratory investigation aimed at establishing a protocol for the production of homogeneous asphalt mixtures test specimens, incorporating reclaimed asphalt by using a gyratory compactor with coring and trimming works. Stone mastic asphalt specimens were compacted at the previously identified target densities with the final aim of obtaining specimens with a fixed and homogeneous air void distribution. A microstructural study was conducted to characterize the homogeneity in the air void distribution using X-ray computed tomography (CT) combined with image analysis techniques. The study concluded that the gyratory compactor is suitable for producing homogeneous test spec…
