Identifying potential sources of value in a packaging value chain
2013
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to propose a process approach for identifying potential sources of customer value of a package in a packaging value chain and illustrate the approach through interview data. Design/methodology/approach – The proposed process approach is a synthesis of customer value theories presented in marketing literature and packaging functions presented in packaging-related literature. Packaging value chain members were interviewed to illustrate the critical packaging-related processes among their business processes and to reveal value in the level of packaging attributes and packaging functions/consequences in use situations. Findings – Interviews with packaging …
Introduction: The Challenges of Defining and Studying Contemporary Entrepreneurship
2011
Entrepreneurship is a broad and complex concept, and is an important contributor to the economic prospects of companies, sectors, and entire nations. To a casual observer, entrepreneurship is most closely associated with smalland medium-sized enterprises, yet it plays a vital role, either directly or indirectly, in the sustainability of organizations of all sizes and types, private or public, national or multinational. The entrepreneur and the entrepreneurial process are critical to creating new economic activity—boosting innovation, wealth, growth, and employment. It strengthens competition between developed economies and supports social welfare within developing countries. There has been …
Supply chain – marketing integration: How do European SMEs go to China via the New Silk Road
2018
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to discuss China’s New Silk Road initiative as an opportunity for European small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to export to Chinese market. It offers research propositions on redefining the business process of European SMEs and Chinese importers in light of the initiative. Design/methodology/approach SMEs’ export barriers, particularly in SCM and marketing, are identified through literature review. Then they are discussed in accordance with the measures that New Silk Road proposed. Findings Logistic infrastructure development under the New Silk Road significantly lowers the supply chain barrier. Marketing remains a challenge for European SMEs to e…
Comparative study of the environmental footprints of marinas on European Islands
2021
AbstractPorts have been key elements in Europe's economic development. This situation is even more relevant on islands, which are highly dependent on the maritime sector. Consequently, over the years, ports with diverse functionalities have been established both in mainland Europe and on its outlying islands. This article discusses the environmental impact of leisure marinas on European islands, especially as they are closely linked to economic development through tourism. The aim is to study the environmental impact of these infrastructures by determining the carbon and water footprints of marinas on European islands in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. The results obtained enable the au…
Formal Modeling and Discrete-Time Analysis of BPEL Web Services
2008
International audience; Web services are increasingly used for building enterprise information systems according to the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) paradigm. We propose in this paper a tool-equipped methodology allowing the formal modeling and analysis of Web services described in the BPEL language. The discrete-time transition systems modeling the behavior of BPEL descriptions are obtained by an exhaustive simulation based on a formalization of BPEL semantics using the Algebra of Timed Processes (ATP). These models are then analyzed by model checking value-based temporal logic properties using the CADP toolbox. The approach is illustrated with the design of a Web service for GPS na…
Integrated Tool for Assisted Predictive Analytics
2021
Organizations use predictive analysis in CRM (customer relationship management) applications for marketing campaigns, sales, and customer services, in manufacturing to predict the location and rate of machine failures, in financial services to forecast financial market trends, predict the impact of new policies, laws and regulations on businesses and markets, etc. Predictive analytics is a business process which consists of collecting the data, developing accurate predictive model and making the analytics available to the business users through a data visualization application. The reliability of a business process can be increased by modeling the process and formally verifying its correctn…
Reengineering an Approach to Model-Driven Development of Business Apps
2015
Despite a perceived convergence in mobile application development, platforms such as Android and iOS remain largely incompatible. Supporting multiple platforms currently requires either separate native development (for each system) or utilization of a cross-platform development framework. While many such frameworks have been developed, only few are mature and even less are used widely, let alone commercially. Moreover, they typically are limited with regard to performance and to preserving a native look & feel. Worst of all, their usefulness for business apps is limited due to their low level of abstraction. In this paper, we take a closer look at an academic prototype that employs model-dr…
Temporal variability analysis reveals biases in electronic health records due to hospital process reengineering interventions over seven years
2019
[EN] Objective To evaluate the effects of Process-Reengineering interventions on the Electronic Health Records (EHR) of a hospital over 7 years. Materials and methods Temporal Variability Assessment (TVA) based on probabilistic data quality assessment was applied to the historic monthly-batched admission data of Hospital La Fe Valencia, Spain from 2010 to 2016. Routine healthcare data with a complete EHR was expanded by processed variables such as the Charlson Comorbidity Index. Results Four Process-Reengineering interventions were detected by quantifiable effects on the EHR: (1) the hospital relocation in 2011 involved progressive reduction of admissions during the next four months, (2) th…
Dynamic capabilities in e-health innovation: Implications for policies
2017
Abstract Objective To mitigate the effect of caregiver shortage, collaborative networks in Norwegian municipalities are exploring the possibilities provided by e-health and welfare technologies. However, extracting benefits from such technologies depends on many factors. Methods In this study, an extensive literature review is performed to compare e-health and other sectors in terms of the critical success factors in collaborative business process management. Using the dynamic capabilities view as a general theoretical lens, and a process orientation framework for operationalization, these factors are then conceptualized and validated in a cross-sectional study of cases in the Norwegian mun…
EFFICACY OF THE CLOUD COMPUTING TECHNOLOGY IN THE MANAGEMENT OF COMMUNICATION AND BUSINESS PROCESSES OF THE COMPANIES
2016
Trends of development and application of different classes of information systems in management according to the types of business processes were investigated in this article. A brief overview of current state of the use of cloud technology in the world and Ukraine was represented. Advantages of using model of "SaaS - Software as a service" was explained on the example of innovation international project "Bitrix 24", where the main objectives of CRM systems were realized combining with wide opportunities of coordination of communicative and business processes of modern companies. The project was translated into the majority European languages and uses tools of the social Intranet environmen…
