Human Factor and LEAN Analysis at Industrial Manufacturing Plants
2018
The aim of the research was to find out effective identification and prevention of ergonomics problems in industrial metal processing manufacturing plant, based on human factor workload analysis and LEAN failure mode and effect analysis. Creation of safe, effective work places, emphasizing human oriented approach and implementing ergonomics in business process management is one of the main conditions for sustainable development of an enterprise. For the research were chosen packaging, assembling and quality control manufacturing plant operations due to main complaints from workers about physical overload, intensive work pace and task complexity. Human factor analysis provides holistic under…
Extracting string motif bases for quorum higher than two
2012
Bases of generators of motifs consisting of strings in which some positions can be occupied by a don’t care provide a useful conceptual tool for their description and a way to reduce the time and space involved in the discovery process. In the last few years, a few algorithms have been proposed for the extraction of a basis, building in large part on combinatorial properties of strings and their autocorrelations. Currently, the most efficient techniques for binary alphabets and quorum q = 2 require time quadratic in the length of the host string. The present paper explores properties of motif bases for quorum q ≥ 2, both with binary and general alphabets, by also showing that important resu…
A Models-to-Program Information Systems Engineering Method
2021
The Model-Driven Development paradigm aims to represent all the information system features through models. Conceptual-Model Programming offers a similar approach, but with a focus on automatic code generation. Both approaches consider modeling and traceability of different abstraction levels, where each level can be tackled with different modeling methods. This heterogeneity introduces a challenge for the quality of the traceability and transformations among models, especially when aiming for automatic code generation. In this paper, we introduce a holistic conceptual-model programming method to generate code from different abstraction levels (from the problem space to the solution space),…
Towards a Concurrence Analysis in Business Processes
2020
This paper presents first steps towards a solution aimed to provide concurrent business processes analysis methodology for predicting the probability of incorrect business process execution. The aim of the paper is to (a) look at approaches to describing and dealing with the execution of concurrent processes, mainly focusing on the transaction mechanisms in database management systems, (b) present an idea and a preliminary version of an algorithm that detects the possibility of incorrect execution of concurrent business processes. Analyzing business process according to the proposed procedure allows to configure transaction processing optimally.
Super User loma kā rīks Procesu vadības brieduma attistībai - Pētījums uzņēmumā "Cabot Latvia".
2017
Maģistra darba nosaukums ir “Super User” loma kā rīks Procesu vadības brieduma attīstībai – Pētījums uzņēmumā ‘Cabot Latvia’”. The title of the Master Thesis is „The “Super User” role as a tool to progress in maturity in Business Process Management – a Study Case of Cabot Latvia”.
Effects of COVID-19 on Business Models in Romania and the Netherlands, A Digitalization Perspective
2020
Abstract The research objective is to study how Romanian and Dutch organizations’ business models have changed under COVID-19 conditions. The role of digitalization in adapting business models and business practices is studied. The theoretical background reviews literature about business models and their dimensions. Literature review investigated digitalization in Romanian and Dutch organizations. Research questions were: To what extent do Romanian and Dutch organizations use: • more digital methods in their offer to their clients now than before the crisis? • more digital methods in their business processes now than before the crisis? • more digital methods in communicating with their clie…
ISTehnology - Metamodel based approach to information system development
2014
Document describes experience of using metamodel-based tool ISTehnology in development of information systems. The author of this document is one of the developers of ISTehnology. The main goal of the research is to figure out the framework (methodology and tools) for building information systems able to work in variable business environment and easy changeable. ISTechnology is such a framework. The document describes a metamodel of ISTehnology, approach to information systems development, advantages and disadvantages of its usage and possibilities to prevent disadvantages by using modern graphical tools of modeling.
The Adaptation of a Web Information System: A Perspective of Organizations
2011
We provide a different view on the problem of Web Information System (WIS) adaptation, looking from perspective of organizations that are interested in an adapted Web Information System for their needs if a unified system to support similar business processes is used. We propose an adaptation architecture for WIS. Two levels of adaptation are introduced—coarse grained adaptation for the organization level and fine grained adaptation for the user level. The architecture supports also the situation, when users can work with many instances of the system adapted for different organizations, which are integrated into one instance for a particular user.
Consequences of Discontinuing Knowledge Work Automation – Surfacing of Deskilling Effects and Methods of Recovery
2018
IS automation pervades business processes today. Thus, concerns have been raised about automation’s potential deskilling effects on knowledge workers. We conduct a revelatory case study about an IT service firm where a managerial decision was taken to discontinue a fixed assets management (FAM) software that provided seemingly effective automation of fixed assets accounting and reporting. We study how automation can result in latent deskilling that later becomes apparent when the system gets discontinued, causing disruptions in employees’ daily work and organizational processes. We also investigate how the employees and the company recover from this disruption by leveraging various coping s…
Towards a method to generate GUI prototypes from BPMN
2018
Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) provides organizations with a standard that facilitates further compression of the business process. BPMN focuses on the functional processes, leaving the development of interfaces to one side. Thereby, interface design usually depends on the subjective experience of the analyst. This article aims to propose a new method to generate user interfaces from BPMN models and Class Diagrams. The proposed method is based on the identification of different rules and makes use of stereotypes to extend BPMN notation. The rules have been extracted from seven existing projects on the Bizagi repository. Specifically, the proposal is based on the extraction of ru…
