De Saint-Venant flexure-torsion problem handled by Line Element-less Method (LEM)

2010

In this paper, the De Saint-Venant flexure-torsion problem is developed via a technique by means of a novel complex potential function analytic in all the domain whose real and imaginary parts are related to the shear stresses. The latter feature makes the complex analysis enforceable for the shear problem. Taking full advantage of the double-ended Laurent series involving harmonic polynomials, a novel element-free weak form procedure, labelled Line Element-less Method (LEM), is introduced, imposing that the square of the net flux across the border is minimized with respect to expansion coefficients. Numerical implementation of the LEM results in systems of linear algebraic equations involv…

Robust estimation of mean electricity consumption curves by sampling for small areas in presence of missing values

2017

In this thesis, we address the problem of robust estimation of mean or total electricity consumption curves by sampling in a finite population for the entire population and for small areas. We are also interested in estimating mean curves by sampling in presence of partially missing trajectories.Indeed, many studies carried out in the French electricity company EDF, for marketing or power grid management purposes, are based on the analysis of mean or total electricity consumption curves at a fine time scale, for different groups of clients sharing some common characteristics.Because of privacy issues and financial costs, it is not possible to measure the electricity consumption curve of eac…

Robust control of a Hammerstein model of DC/DC converters

2007

This paper deals with the robust control of a Hammerstein mathematical model of DC/DC converters, consisting of the nonlinear static characteristics of the converter followed by one of a few number of linear time- invariant models which describe the converter in the useful working range. One of these models is assumed as the nominal model of the system and the remaining models are used for describing the model uncertainty. Nominal behaviour is assured using H-2 optimal control method, Robust stability and behaviour are assured by imposing H-infin specifications. The closed loop control system consisting of the converter Hammerstein model and the robust controller is analyzed by means of sim…

Identification of CPE and GAIT elements in 3’UTR of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) involved in inflammatory response induced by LPS in …

2018

Innate immune responses face infectious microorganisms by inducing inflammatory responses. Multiple genes within distinct functional categories are coordinately and temporally regulated by transcriptional 'on' and 'off' switches that account for the specificity of gene expression in response to external stimuli. Mechanisms that control transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation are important in coordinating the initiation and resolution of inflammation. Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) is an important cytokine that, in Ciona robusta, is related to inflammatory response. It is well known that in C. robusta, formerly known as Ciona intestinalis, the pharynx is involved in…

Evolutionary and transcriptional analyses of a pentraxin-like component family involved in the LPS inflammatory response of Ciona robusta

2020

Pentraxins (PTXs) are a superfamily of conserved proteins which are components of the humoral arm of innate immunity. They are considered to be functional ancestors of antibodies and are classified into short and long types. In this study, we show that a pentraxin-like component (Ptx-like) with a C-terminal PTX domain, highly homologous to the short PTX of H. sapiens CRP, and a long N-terminal domain typical of long PTXs, is involved in the inflammatory response of Ciona robusta under LPS exposure in vivo. Analyses of protein domains as well as 3D modelling and phylogenetic tree supported the close relationship of Ptx-like with mammalian CRP, suggesting that C. robusta Ptx-like shares a com…

Transcriptomic Analyses Reveal 2 and 4 Family Members of Cytochromes P450 (CYP) Involved in LPS Inflammatory Response in Pharynx of Ciona robusta

2021

Cytochromes P450 (CYP) are enzymes responsible for the biotransformation of most endogenous and exogenous agents. The expression of each CYP is influenced by a unique combination of mechanisms and factors including genetic polymorphisms, induction by xenobiotics, and regulation by cytokines and hormones. In recent years, Ciona robusta, one of the closest living relatives of vertebrates, has become a model in various fields of biology, in particular for studying inflammatory response. Using an in vivo LPS exposure strategy, next-generation sequencing (NGS) and qRT-PCR combined with bioinformatics and in silico analyses, compared whole pharynx transcripts from naïve and LPS-exposed C. robusta…

Immune-mediated change in the expression of a sexual trait predicts offspring survival in the wild.

2011

9 pages; International audience; BACKGROUND: The "good genes" theory of sexual selection postulates that females choose mates that will improve their offspring's fitness through the inheritance of paternal genes. In spite of the attention that this hypothesis has given rise to, the empirical evidence remains sparse, mostly because of the difficulties of controlling for the many environmental factors that may covary with both the paternal phenotype and offspring fitness. Here, we tested the hypothesis that offspring sired by males of a preferred phenotype should have better survival in an endangered bird, the houbara bustard (Chlamydotis undulata undulata). METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: We…

Dynamic best spectral bands selection for face recognition

2014

In this paper, face recognition in uncontrolled illumination conditions is investigated. A twofold contribution is proposed. First, three state-of-art algorithms, namely Multiblock Local Binary Pattern (MBLBP), Histogram of Gabor Phase Patterns (HGPP) and Local Gabor Binary Pattern Histogram Sequence (LGBPHS) are evaluated upon the IRIS-M3 face database to study their robustness against a high illumination variation conditions. Second, we propose to use visible multispectral images, provided by the same face database, to enhance the performance of the three mentioned algorithms. To reduce the high data dimensionality introduced by the use of multispectral images, we have designed a system t…

Optimized adiabatic passage with dephasing

2008

We study adiabatic population transfer with dephasing in two-level models driven by a chirped driving field. We show that the population transfer is maximized when the dynamics follows specific ellipses as trajectories in the parameter space. We determine the optimal parameters and estimate the losses in a closed form. These estimates show a similar robustness as for the standard lossless adiabatic processes with respect to variations of the parameters.

Stationary and Initial-Terminal Value Problem for Collective Decision Making via Mean-Field Games

2017

Given a large number of homogeneous players that are distributed across three possible states, we consider the problem in which these players have to control their transition rates, following some optimality criteria. The optimal transition rates are based on the players' knowledge of their current state and of the distribution of all the other players, thus introducing mean-field terms in the running and the terminal cost. The first contribution is a mean-field model that takes into account the macroscopic and the microscopic dynamics. The second contribution is the study of the mean-field equilibrium resulting from solving the initial-terminal value problem, involving the Kolmogorov equat…
