This paper describes an application of the visual servoing approach to vision-based control in robotics. The basic idea addresses the use of a vision sensor in the feedback loop within the controlled vision framework. It consists in tracking of arbitrary 3-D objects travelling at unknown velocities in a 2-D space (depth is given as known). Once the necessary modeling stage is performed, the framework becomes one of automatic control, and naturally stability, performance and robustness questions arise. This paper deals with the problem of robust model predictive control (RMPC) for a class of linear time-varying systems with constraints and data losses. We take the polytopic uncertainties into account to describe the uncertain systems. First, we design a robust state observer by using the linear matrix inequality (LMI) constraints so that the original system state can be tracked. Second, the MPC gain is calculated by minimizing the upper bound of infinite horizon robust performance objective in terms of linear matrix inequality conditions. The method of robust MPC and state observer design is illustrated by a numerical example.

Real-Time Monocular Segmentation and Pose Tracking of Multiple Objects

We present a real-time system capable of segmenting multiple 3D objects and tracking their pose using a single RGB camera, based on prior shape knowledge. The proposed method uses twist-coordinates for pose parametrization and a pixel-wise second-order optimization approach which lead to major improvements in terms of tracking robustness, especially in cases of fast motion and scale changes, compared to previous region-based approaches. Our implementation runs at about 50–100 Hz on a commodity laptop when tracking a single object without relying on GPGPU computations. Co3O4/CeO2 and Co3O4/CeO2–ZrO2 composite catalysts for methane combustion: Correlation between morphology reduction properties and catalytic activity

Abstract Co3O4/CeO2 and Co3O4/CeO2–ZrO2 composite catalysts have been prepared by two different techniques, co-precipitation by citrate method and impregnation with cobalt nitrate of pre-formed ceria and ceria–zirconia oxides. The materials, as prepared and after ageing at 750 °C 7 h, were tested for methane combustion and the catalytic performances were compared with those of a commercial Co3O4, used as reference. A significant improvement of the activity was observed in the composite oxide Co3O4(30 wt%)/CeO2(70 wt%), prepared by citrate method, which exhibits the lowest light-off temperature of methane (T50 = 400 °C) and does not suffer deactivation after calcination at 750 °C 7 h.

Abstract An original approach to the motion analysis, based on the novelty filter, is proposed. The novelty filter stresses the novelties occurring in a pattern representing an image of the scene under consideration with respect to patterns representing previous images of the same scene, so that visual information about the motion of the objects is obtained. A fiber-based limiter at 170 Gbit/s for all-optical regeneration

We report the numerical and experimental studies of a spectrally filtered fiber-based optical limiter at 170 Gbit/s. The device, including less than 1 km-long of highly nonlinear optical fiber and a 3 nm-width filter, exhibits good performance at an average input power of 14.5 dBm. No power penalty has been observed and a strong robustness against optical noise has been demonstrated.
