Characterization of Biodiesel from Vegetable Oil Using Comprehensive Two-Dimensional Gas Chromatography

Biodiesel from vegetable oils has been analyzed and its suitability for internal combustion engines has been assessed. The Standard biofuel’s characteristics have been investigated. Gas chromatography (GC) tests were carried out to characterize the fatty acid behavior. It was found that the mass percentage of saturated fatty acids did not change substantially with time, while unsaturated fatty acids increased with time for both B100 and B30. An increase in density for B100 and B30 with time was noted. Biodiesel density was within the standardization. The calorific values of biodiesel and its blend increased with time. Abstract Chlorinated aromatic thioethers discussed here are polychlorinated dibenzothiophenes, thianthrenes and diphenylsulphides. Relatively little is known about their occurrence, behaviour and fate in the environment. Polychlorinated dibenzothiophenes and diphenylsulphides have recently been found to be formed in waste combustion and analysed in pulp mill effluents. Chlorinated sulphoxides and sulphones are usually metabolites or oxidation products of different chlorinated aromatic compounds. Abstract The use of rare earth-containing perovskite oxides as total oxidation catalysts faces to the difficulty of obtaining high surface area materials and the need of calcination at high temperatures for its synthesis. In this work, perovskite NdCoO3 catalysts with relatively high surface areas were synthesized at soft calcination conditions by two non-conventional routes: heteronuclear organic complexes and amorphous precursors obtained by freeze-drying of nitrates solutions. Flame retardant composites must perform their protective roles permanently, also under conditions of intermittent or long-term exposure to sunlight, moisture or increased temperature. The aim of our work was characterization of the thermo-oxidative ageing (90 °C) and the changes in flammability of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer composites with 40 and 60 wt.% of magnesium hydroxide. Abstract The aim of this paper was to establish the cause of sinking of an old wooden vessel by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) analyses because wood combustion is a source of PAHs. In particular, the molecular PAH patterns generated by each source are like fingerprints and it is possible to determine the processes that generate PAHs by studying their distribution in wood samples.
