Stability of phospholipase D in primary astrocytes.
2002
Induction of expression and proteolytic breakdown of phospholipase D (PLD) isoforms in primary astrocyte cultures have been investigated. Astrocytes express both PLD1 and 2 and are dependent on PLD activity for cell proliferation [K. Kotter, J. Klein, J. Neurochem. 73 (1999) 2517]. Competitive RT-PCR analysis demonstrated a higher level of PLD1 mRNA than PLD2 mRNA (8.9 vs. 0.9amol/microg RNA, respectively). Treatment of astroglial cultures with the phorbol ester, 4beta-phorbol-12beta,13alpha-dibutyrate (0.1 microM), for 24-48h selectively induced PLD1b but not PLD1a or 2 expression as shown by PCR and Western blot; the effect was sensitive to Go 6976. In cells transiently permeabilized with…
Tributyltin(Iv) butyrate: A novel epigenetic modifier with er stress-and apoptosis-inducing properties in colon cancer cells
2021
Organotin(IV) compounds are a class of non-platinum metallo-conjugates exhibiting antitumor activity. The effects of different organotin types has been related to several mechanisms, including their ability to modify acetylation protein status and to promote apoptosis. Here, we focus on triorganotin(IV) complexes of butyric acid, a well-known HDAC inhibitor with antitumor properties. The conjugated compounds were synthesized and characterised by FTIR spectroscopy, multi-nuclear (1H, 13C and 119Sn) NMR, and mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). In the triorganotin(IV) complexes, an anionic monodentate butyrate ligand was observed, which coordinated the tin atom on a tetra-coordinated, monomeric enviro…
Biodegradation in soil effects on PLA/sisal and PHBV/sisal biocomposites
2013
The use of bio-based composites like lignocellulosic fibres/polymer composites as an alternative materials are continuously increasing in several applications such as automobile manufacturing, packaging, construction or household and agricultural equipments. In order to warranty the durability on green biocomposites based on polymer matrixes like poly(hydroxy butyrate-co-valerate) (PHBV) and poly(lactide) (PLA), the previous knowledge about the influence of the ambient agents on their macromolecular properties is necessary. In this sense, biodegradation in soil normalised experiments are useful. In this work, two commercial PHBV and PLA were reinforced with sisal fibres at 10 %, 20% and 30%…
Differential roles of PKCα and PKCɛ in controlling the gene expression of Nox4 in human endothelial cells
2007
NADPH oxidases are major sources of superoxide in the vascular wall. This study investigates the role of protein kinase C (PKC) in regulating gene expression of NADPH oxidases. Treatment of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) and HUVEC-derived EA.hy 926 endothelial cells with phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) or phorbol 12,13-dibutyrate led to a PKC-dependent biphasic expression of the gp91phox homolog Nox4. A downregulation of Nox4 was observed at 6 h and an upregulation at 48 h after phorbol ester treatment. The early Nox4 downregulation was associated with a reduced superoxide production, whereas the late Nox4 upregulation was accompanied by a clear enhancement of superoxi…
Responses of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus adults to selected synthetic palm esters: electroantennographic studies and trap catches in an urban environme…
2010
BACKGROUND: The red palm weevil (RPW), Rhynchophorus ferrugineus Olivier, accidentally introduced into the European countries facing the Mediterranean basin, is becoming the most serious pest for ornamental palms in the urban environment. In the present work, tests were conducted on the electroantennogram (EAG) and behavioural responses of RPW adults to five selected synthetic palm esters, ethyl propionate, ethyl butyrate, ethyl isobutyrate, ethyl lactate and ethyl acetate, to assess the application of a mass trapping technique in an urban environment. RESULTS: In the laboratory, EAG bioassays on RPW adults with the synthetic palm esters showed: (1) positive dose-dependent responses; (2) di…
Perceptual interactions between fruity and woody notes of wine
2004
The quantitative olfactory interactions in three binary mixtures of wine aroma compounds were studied. For the first two mixtures, whisky lactone (woody note) was mixed separately with two esters (fruity note), ethyl butyrate and isoamyl acetate. For the third mixture, guaiacol (woody note) was mixed with ethyl butyrate (fruity note). Perceived odour intensity of 24 stimuli (four supra-threshold concentration levels of two compounds and the respective 16 mixtures) were evaluated in five replications, by a trained panel of 13 subjects. The results showed that for the three binary mixtures studied, quantitative perceptual interactions were non-level independent, non-symmetrical, and reached t…
Chemical composition, antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of the essential oils from Pimpinellatragium Vill. subsp. glauca (C. Presl.) C. BrulloBr…
2013
The essential oils from flowers, leaves and stems hydrodistilled from Pimpinella tragium Vill, subsp. glauca were characterised by GC and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis. The C-12 nor-sesquiterpenes are the principal class of metabolites (56.6-70.6%) among which geijerene (28.9÷49.3%) and pregeijerene (10÷19.1%) predominate. Antimicrobial and antioxidant activities were evaluated. The minimum inhibitory concentration values indicate that oil obtained from the stems is the most active for antimicrobial activities and the sample with the biggest antioxidant capacity is the flower oil.
Enzym-histochemische Studien am cervicalen Drsenfeld des Uterus
1972

Butyrate-Induced Growth Arrest of GH3-Cells is not Linked to a Distinct Morphological Phenotype
1983
N-butyric acid is known to be a potent proliferation-inhibitor of a great number of cell types, both normal and neoplastic (1). In many cases growth arrest is accompanied by striking changes in morphology, e.g. formation of cell processes or increased spreading (1). These changes can be traced back to altered glycolipide and glycoprotein patterns of the plasma membrane and to a reorganization of the cytoskeleton (2, 3).
