Byczyna is today a small city, located in the northern part of the Opolskie Voivodeship. This stronghold is famous for well-preserved city walls, as well as for its history, especially that associated with the memorable battle of 1588. Of course, here is the clash between the troops led by Jan Zamoyski (1542-1605) and Archduke Maximilian III of Habsburg (1558-1618), which ended in the defeat of the latter. This event had a great impact on the history of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, as it pushed the Habsburgs away from royal power, as well as consolidated the rule of the Vasa dynasty.
