The static ocular counterrolling (OCR) of the four scientific crew members in the first Spacelab mission was measured during baseline-data-collection before and after the flight of SL-1. It was presumed that the modification of otolithic responses during spaceflight will be reflected in specific changes of the OCR-gain on the first days after recovery. The magnitude of OCR was determined analysing colour-transparencies of subjects right eyes that were produced in different positions of lateral body tilt. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE A sensitive and frequent clinical sign of a vestibular tone imbalance is the tilt of the perceived subjective visual vertical (SVV). There are no data yet focusing on lesion location at the cortical level as a factor for predicting compensation from the tilt of the SVV. METHODS With modern voxelwise lesion behavior mapping analysis, the present study determines whether lesion location in 23 right-hemispheric cortical stroke patients with an otolith dysfunction could predict the compensation of a vestibular tone imbalance in the chronic stage. Introduction Pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE) typically involves elastic fibers in blood vessels and Bruch membrane. Our purpose was to analyze retinal and choroidal macular thickness in patients with angioid streaks due PXE compared with a control group. Methods Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), axial length (AL), and macular swept-source optical coherence tomography were obtained. Automated segmentations of the retina and the choroid were used to obtain the corresponding thickness values. An age, gender and AL matched control group was used to compare the thickness values. In 3 patients with vaginal aplasia respectively traumatic vaginal loss a neovagina was created out of the separated ileocecal segment. Advantages of this technique are the excellent blood supply of the ileocecal region and the long vascular pedicle. The additional application of terminal ileum for prolongation of the cecal vaginoplasty allows the tensionless anastomosis between neovagina and vulva even in patients with difficult anatomical conditions. The present paper gives a detailed description of the operative technique and the indications of the ileocecal vaginoplasty. Furthermore the common techniques for vaginal replacement are reviewed and discussed.

A 72-year-old woman, not previously known to have coronary heart disease, was admitted to hospital with an acute anterior wall myocardial infarction. The history revealed that, when about 40 years of age, a coarse skin-fold and yellowish-white xanthoma-like efflorescences had been noted around her umbilicus, the inguinal regions and axillae. These changes subsequently developed into a pathognomonic picture of pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PE), which was a significant factor in the myocardial infarction. We have compared four human subsets of Vgamma9Vdelta2 T cells, naive (T(naive), CD45RA(+)CD27(+)), central memory (T(CM), CD45RA(-)CD27(+)), effector memory (T(EM), CD45RA(-)CD27(-)) and terminally differentiated (T(EMRA), CD45RA(+)CD27(-)), for their capacity to proliferate and differentiate in response to antigen or homeostatic cytokines. Cytokine responsiveness and IL-15R expression were low in T(naive) cells and progressively increased from T(CM) to T(EM) and T(EMRA) cells.
