Relating magnetization, structure and rheology in ferrofluids with multi-core magnetic nanoparticles

Abstract Due to their magnetic moments solubilized magnetic nanoparticles are able to spontaneously assemble into dipolar mesostructures, which affect the flow behavior. Multi-core magnetic nanoparticles developed for biomedical applications have enhanced magnetic properties and show significant magnetoviscous effect, but the quantitative interpretation of this phenomenon is incomplete. We apply rheological measurements, magnetic granulometry and dimensional scaling to show the existence of a master curve for magnetorheology of these materials. Using the developed approach the magnetoviscous effect can now be interpreted in a unified way within the stochastic chain model.

High field magnetization of the colloidal Mn–Zn ferrite

Abstract The magnetic properties of a hydrocarbon based colloid (stabilized by oleic acid) of polydisperse chemically co-precipitated Mn 0.5 Zn 0.5 Fe 2 O 4 particles are discussed in the paper. Two fractions are separated from an initial ferrofluid sample by centrifugation. X-ray diffraction measurements show the crystal structure of the particles and a broadened shape of the diffraction lines. Mean particle diameters 6.2 nm (the light fraction) and 9.7 nm (the heavy one) were determined by TEM measurements. The magnetization of the colloids is measured by VSM up to 12 T. Evaluation of vapor mass transfer in various membrane distillation configurations: an experimental study

Vapor mass transfer phenomena in four different membrane distillation (MD) configurations were examined through a self-built laboratory scale experimen- tal apparatus: Air Gap MD, Sweeping Gas MD, Vacuum Sweeping Gas MD and Vacuum MD. Vapor fluxes were measured and compared with those predicted by various models, showing that MD performance under usual processing conditions is severely controlled by the permeate side resistance to mass transfer.

Time-resolved buildup of twisted indirect exchange interaction in two-dimensional systems

We study theoretically the time-domain dynamics of the spin-dependent Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) interaction between driven magnetic impurities localized in a spin-orbit-coupled two-dimensional system. Particular attention is given to the influence of the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) on the system's dynamical response to a time-dependent precessional motion of the localized magnetic moment. We show that, via the RKKY mechanism, a flip of the spin $z$ component of one localized moment affects all $x,\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}y$, and $z$ spin components of the other localized moment. Natural co-occurrence of mycotoxins in wheat grains from Italy and Syria

This article describes the application of an analytical method for the detection of 25 mycotoxins in wheat grain based on simultaneous extraction using matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) followed by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry, a hybrid triple quadrupole-linear ion trap mass spectrometer (QTrapÒ). Information Dependent Acquisition (IDA), an extra confirmation tool for samples that contain the target mycotoxins, was used. Mycobiota and co-occurrence of mycotoxins in Capsicum powder

This study aimed to: (1) determine the mycobiota of Capsicum powder samples, paying a special attention to the mycotoxigenic moulds; (2) evaluate the contamination levels of aflatoxins (AF), ochratoxin A (OTA), zearalenone (ZEA), deoxynivalenol (DON), T2 and HT2 toxins in those samples. Thirty-two samples were obtained through the methods of sampling established by the European Union legislation. Aspergillus and Eurotium were the most frequently found genera. Fusarium species, chemotype characterisation and trichothecene contamination of durum and soft wheat in an area of central Italy

BACKGROUND Fusarium head blight (FHB) of wheat is an important disease causing yield losses and mycotoxin contamination. The aim of the work was to detect and characterise trichothecene producing Fusarium species in durum and soft wheat cultivated in an area of central Italy in 2009 and 2010 and to determine trichothecene contamination by LC-MS/MS in the grain. RESULTS F. graminearum s. str. was the most frequent species. In 2009, the occurrence of F. avenaceum and F. poae was higher than in 2010.
