Abstract Background Emotionally salient experiences induce the formation of explicit memory traces, besides eliciting automatic or implicit emotional memory in rodents. Inhibitory purinergic transmission in mouse caecum: Role for P2Y1 receptors as prejunctional modulators of ATP release

Using conventional microelectrode recording techniques, we investigated, in the circular muscle of the mouse caecum, the neurotransmitter(s) involved in the neurally-evoked inhibitory junction potentials (IJPs) and the existence of possible prejunctional mechanisms controlling neurotransmitter release. Electrical field stimulation with single pulses elicited IJPs, consisting only of a "fast" hyperpolarization, while using train stimuli (30-50 Hz) the initial fast hyperpolarization was followed by a slower hyperpolarization. Explicit episodic memory for sensory-discriminative components of capsaicin-induced pain: Immediate and delayed ratings

Pain memory is thought to affect future pain sensitivity and thus contribute to clinical pain conditions. Systematic investigations of the human capacity to remember sensory features of experimental pain are sparse. In order to address long-term pain memory, nine healthy male volunteers received intrader- mal injections of three doses of capsaicin (0.05, 1 and 20 lg, separated by 15 min breaks), each given three times in a balanced design across three sessions at one week intervals. ABCC transporters mediate insect resistance to multiple Bt toxins revealed by bulk segregant analysis

[EN] Background: Relatively recent evidence indicates that ABCC2 transporters play a main role in the mode of action of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) Cry1A-type proteins. Mapping of major Cry1A resistance genes has linked resistance to the ABCC2 locus in Heliothis virescens, Plutella xylostella, Trichoplusia ni and Bombyx mori, and mutations in this gene have been found in three of these Bt-resistant strains. Phenotypical and functional analysis of memory and effector human CD8 T cells specific for mycobacterial antigens

Abstract Mycobacterium tuberculosis infects one-third of the global population and claims two million lives every year. Because memory CD8 T cells exhibit a high heterogeneity in terms of phenotype and functional characteristic, we investigated the frequency, phenotype, and functional properties of Ag85A epitope-specific HLA-A*0201 CD8 T cells in children affected by tuberculosis (TB) before and 4 mo after chemotherapy and healthy contact children. MHC-restricted T cell receptor signaling is required for αβ TCR replacement of the pre T cell receptor

Analysis of memory and effector CD8+ T cell subsets in chronic graft-versus-host disease.

In humans, the selective depletion of CD8+ cells may prevent GVHD after allogeneic transplantation. These cells can infiltrate and damage target tissues. It is of interest to investigate the phenotypical characteristics and cytotoxic properties of the different CD8+ subsets in cGVHD patients. Gentamicin alters nitric oxide production in semicircular canals and otolith organs.

Low doses eliminate the function of semicircular canal ampullae (SCCA) and saccule in most patients, although utricular function is maintained in many cases. Chronic administration of fluoxetine impairs inhibitory avoidance in male but not female mice

The effects of chronic administration of fluoxetine (20 mg/kg/day i.p.) on a one-trial step-through inhibitory avoidance task were investigated in male and female CD1 mice. In Experiment 1, treatment was administered for 21 days before the training session, whereas in Experiment 2, other subjects were subjected to the same treatment starting 24 h after the training session. The comparison of test versus training latencies showed memory deterioration with pre-training administration of fluoxetine (Experiment 1), which affected males but not females. Interaction Between Uridine and GABA-Mediated Inhibitory Transmission: Studies In Vivo and In Vitro

Na+-independent [3H]gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) binding to membrane preparations from frontal cortex, hippocampus, and thalamus is competitively inhibited by the in vitro addition of a naturally occurring pyrimidinic compound, uridine. Moreover, the intraperitoneal injection of uridine produces a dose-related decrease in the cerebellar content of cyclic GMP and antagonizes its increase elicited by bicuculline. The pyrimidinic compound also shows an antagonism toward bicuculline-induced seizures.
