Loss of Nrf2 in bone marrow-derived macrophages impairs antigen-driven CD8+ T cell function by limiting GSH and Cys availability

NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), known to protect against reactive oxygen species, has recently been reported to resolve acute inflammatory responses in activated macrophages. Consequently, disruption of Nrf2 promotes a proinflammatory macrophage phenotype. In the current study, we addressed the impact of this macrophage phenotype on CD8(+) T cell activation by using an antigen-driven coculture model consisting of Nrf2(-/-) and Nrf2(+/+) bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMΦ) and transgenic OT-1 CD8(+) T cells. A continuum damage model for functionalized graphene membranes based on atomistic simulations

A continuum model for GO membranes is developed in this study. The model is built representing the membrane as a two-dimensional, heterogeneous, two-phase continuum and the constitutive behavior of each phase (graphitic or oxidized) is built based on DFTB simulations of representative patches. A hyper-elastic continuum model is employed for the graphene areas, while a continuum damage model is more adequate for representing the behavior of oxidized regions. Biomolecular conjugation inside synthetic polymer nanopores via glycoprotein-lectin interactions

We demonstrate the supramolecular bioconjugation of concanavalin A (Con A) protein with glycoenzyme horseradish peroxidase (HRP) inside single nanopores, fabricated in heavy ion tracked polymer membranes. Firstly, the HRP-enzyme was covalently immobilized on the inner wall of the pores using carbodiimide coupling chemistry. The immobilized HRP-enzyme molecules bear sugar (mannose) groups available for the binding of Con A protein. Neutrino transition magnetic moments within the non-standard neutrino-nucleus interactions

Tensorial non-standard neutrino interactions are studied through a combined analysis of nuclear structure calculations and a sensitivity $\chi^2$-type of neutrino events expected to be measured at the COHERENT experiment, recently planned to operate at the Spallation Neutron Source (Oak Ridge). Statistical sensitivity of the nEDM apparatus at PSI to n − n′ oscillations

The neutron and its hypothetical mirror counterpart, a sterile state degenerate in mass, could spontaneously mix in a process much faster than the neutron β-decay. Two groups have performed a series of experiments in search of neutron – mirror-neutron (n − n′) oscillations. The n2EDM experiment at the Paul Scherrer Institute

We present the new spectrometer for the neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM) search at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), called n2EDM. The setup is at room temperature in vacuum using ultracold neutrons. n2EDM features a large UCN double storage chamber design with neutron transport adapted to the PSI UCN source. The design builds on experience gained from the previous apparatus operated at PSI until 2017. An order of magnitude increase in sensitivity is calculated for the new baseline setup based on scalable results from the previous apparatus, and the UCN source performance achieved in 2016.

Lai izvērtētu izolētu tabakas hloroplastu potenciālu kā cilmes šūnu barotni bagātinošu līdzekli, FM-55-P cilvēka melanomas šūnas tika inkubētas 2 dienas ar izolētiem hloroplastiem, kas tika pievienoti šūnu kultūrai kā barotnes atšķaidījums vai kā hloroplastu piedeva. Tika noskaidrots, ka hloroplastu piedeva barotnei neizraisa ievērojamu proliferācijas samazinājumu salīdzinot ar barotnes atšķaidījumu un ka hloroplastu piedevas klātbūtnē melanocīti vairāk atraujas no kultūras virsmas bez šūnu nāves pazīmēm. Hloroplasti barotnē šķietami sadalījās un tika iekļauti melanocītu citoplazmā visos pievienošanas variantos. Izolētu hloroplastu ietekme uz melanomas šūnu kultūru tika vērtēta kā neizteikt…

Core cross-linking of polymeric micelles has been demonstrated to contribute to enhanced stability that can improve the therapeutic efficacy. Photochemistry has the potential to provide spatial resolution and on-demand drug release. In this study, light-sensitive polypyridyl-ruthenium(II) complexes were combined with polypept(o)ides for photocleavable core cross-linked polymeric micelles.
