Alpha-decay energies of superheavy nuclei for the Fayans functional

2016

Alpha-decay energies for several chains of super-heavy nuclei are calculated within the self-consistent mean-field approach by using the Fayans functional FaNDF$^0$. They are compared to the experimental data and predictions of two Skyrme functionals, SLy4 and SkM*, and of the macro-micro method as well. The corresponding lifetimes are calculated with the use of the semi-phenomenological formulas by Parkhomenko and Sobiczewski and by Royer and Zhang.

Evaluation of the magnetic moments of radium isotopes

1990

Using the relativistic linked cluster many-body perturbation procedure we have obtained the hyperfine field at the nucleus of the Ra+ ion in the2S1/2 ground state. There is good agreement between the calculated magnetic moment of213Ra and the results of a recent Zeeman measurement by the collinear laser beam technique. Detailed comparison is carried out between our result and earlier ones.

Data Blinding for the nEDM Experiment at PSI

2020

Psychological bias towards, or away from, prior measurements or theory predictions is an intrinsic threat to any data analysis. While various methods can be used to try to avoid such a bias, e.g. actively avoiding looking at the result, only data blinding is a traceable and trustworthy method that can circumvent the bias and convince a public audience that there is not even an accidental psychological bias. Data blinding is nowadays a standard practice in particle physics, but it is particularly difficult for experiments searching for the neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM), as several cross measurements, in particular of the magnetic field, create a self-consistent network into which it …

Evolution of nuclear structure in neutron-rich odd-Zn isotopes and isomers

2017

Collinear laser spectroscopy was performed on Zn (Z=30) isotopes at ISOLDE, CERN. The study of hyperfine spectra of nuclei across the Zn isotopic chain, N=33–49, allowed the measurement of nuclear spins for the ground and isomeric states in odd-A neutron-rich nuclei up to N=50. Exactly one long-lived (&

Determination of spin, magnetic moment and isotopic shift of neutron rich205Hg by optical pumping

1975

Neutron rich205Hg (T 1/2=5.2 min) was produced and on-line mass separated at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. The polarization achieved by optical pumping via the atomic line (6s 21 S 0↔6s6p 3 P 1,λ=2 537A) was monitored by theβ decay asymmetry. Hyperfine structure and isotopic shift of the205Hg absorption line was determined by Zeeman scanning. In addition a magnetic resonance was performed on the polarized205Hg nuclei in the atomic ground state. The results are: $$I(^{205} Hg) = \tfrac{1}{2}$$ (confirmed);μ I (205Hg)=0.5915 (1)μ N (uncorrected for diamagnetism); isotopic shiftδv204/205=v(205Hg)-v(204Hg)=−1.8 (1) GHz.μ I and IS are discussed briefly in the frame of current literature.

Co2CrIn: A Further Magnetic Heusler Compound

2006

Summary and Outlook In summary, this work presents the synthesis andcharacterisation of the Heusler compound Co 2 CrIn.The compound is L2 1 ordered and shows no major an-tisite disorder. Co 2 CrIn turns out to be a ferrimagnetwith a magnetic moment of 1.18 µ B at 5 K. In addi-tion, the hysterisis curve reveals a soft magnetic be-haviour. A measurement of the site specific magneticmomentsis highlydesirableas it might leadto a deeperunderstanding of the magnetic properties of Co 2 CrIn.Furthermore, the measured magnetic moment is not aninteger number, as expected for a half-metallic ferro-magnet. Thus, Co 2 CrIn can not be a half-metallic fer-romagnet, as most of the other Co 2 YZ Heusler com-…

Final report on the CERN muon storage ring including the anomalous magnetic moment and the electric dipole moment of the muon, and a direct test of r…

1978

Abstract A comprehensive description of the muon storage ring and its operation is given, and the final results of the experiment are presented and discussed. The anomalous magnetic moments of positive and negative muons are found to be aμ+ = 1165911(11) × 10−9 and aμ− = 1165937(12) × 10−9 giving an average value for muons of aμ = 1165924(8.5) × 10−9. The electric dipole moments were also measured with the results Dμ+= (8.6 ± 4.5) × 10−9e · cm and Dμ− = (0.8 ± 4.3) × 10−19e · cm. Under the assumption of the CPT theorem these yield a weighted average of Dμ = (3.7 ± 3.4) × 10−19e · cm. Finally the time transformation of special relativity is shown to be valid to (0.8 ± 0.7) × 10−3 at γ ≅ 29.3…

The HypHI project at GSI and FAIR

2008

Even though both experimental and theoretical activities on hypernuclear physics have been extended by a number of international projects, direct measurements on hypernuclear magnetic moments and studies of hypernuclei at extreme isospins have never been performed. The international HypHI collaboration proposes to perform hypernuclear spectroscopy with stable heavy ion beams and rare isotope beams at GSI and FAIR in order to study neutron and proton rich hypernuclei and to measure directly hypernuclear magnetic moments. The project is divided into four phases. In the first Phase 0 experiment, the feasibility of precise hypernuclear spectroscopy with heavy ion beams will be demonstrated by o…
