Electromagnetic structure of the lowest-lying decuplet resonances in covariant chiral perturbation theory

2009

We present a calculation of the leading SU(3)-breaking O(p(3)) corrections to the electromagnetic moments and charge radius of the lowest-lying decuplet resonances in covariant chiral perturbation theory. In particular, the magnetic dipole moment of the members of the decuplet is predicted fixing the only low-energy constant (LEC) present up to this order with the well-measured magnetic dipole moment of the Omega(-). We predict mu(++)(Delta) = 6.04(13) and mu(+)(Delta) = 2.84(2), which agree well with the current experimental information. For the electric quadrupole moment and the charge radius, we use state-of-the-art lattice QCD results to determine the corresponding LECs, whereas for the…

High-precision calculation of the strange nucleon electromagnetic form factors

2015

We report a direct lattice QCD calculation of the strange nucleon electromagnetic form factors $G_E^s$ and $G_M^s$ in the kinematic range $0 \leq Q^2 \lesssim 1.2\: {\rm GeV}^2$. For the first time, both $G_E^s$ and $G_M^s$ are shown to be nonzero with high significance. This work uses closer-to-physical lattice parameters than previous calculations, and achieves an unprecedented statistical precision by implementing a recently proposed variance reduction technique called hierarchical probing. We perform model-independent fits of the form factor shapes using the $z$-expansion and determine the strange electric and magnetic radii and magnetic moment. We compare our results to parity-violatin…

A Comprehensive Mechanism Reproducing the Mass and Mixing Parameters of Quarks and Leptons

2013

It is shown that if, from the starting point of a universal rank-one mass matrix long favored by phenomenologists, one adds the assumption that it rotates (changes its orientation in generation space) with changing scale, one can reproduce, in terms of only six real parameters, all the 16 mass ratios and mixing parameters of quarks and leptons. Of these 16 quantities so reproduced, 10 for which data exist for direct comparison (i.e. the CKM elements including the CP-violating phase, the angles theta(12), theta(13), theta(23) in nu-oscillation, and the masses m(c), m(mu), m(e)) agree well with experiment, mostly to within experimental errors; four others (m(s), m(u), m(d), m(nu 2)), the expe…

The Cabibbo angle as a universal seed for quark and lepton mixings

2015

A model-independent ansatz to describe lepton and quark mixing in a unified way is suggested based upon the Cabibbo angle. In our framework neutrinos mix in a "Bi-Large" fashion, while the charged leptons mix as the "down-type" quarks do. In addition to the standard Wolfenstein parameters (lambda, A) two other free parameters are needed to specify the physical lepton mixing matrix. Through this simple assumption one makes specific predictions for the atmospheric angle as well as leptonic CP violation in good agreement with current observations.

Magnetic moments of theΛ(1405)andΛ(1670)resonances

2002

By using techniques of unitarized chiral perturbation theory, where the $\ensuremath{\Lambda}(1405)$ and $\ensuremath{\Lambda}(1670)$ resonances are dynamically generated, we evaluate the magnetic moments of these resonances and their transition magnetic moment. The results obtained here differ appreciably from those obtained with existing quark models. The width for the $\ensuremath{\Lambda}(1670)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\Lambda}(1405)\ensuremath{\gamma}$ transition is also evaluated, leading to a branching ratio of the order of $2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}6}.$

The Weak-Magnetic Moment of Heavy Quarks

1997

With initial and final particles on-shell, the anomalous weak-magnetic dipole moments of b and c quarks are electroweak gauge invariant quantities of the effective couplings Zb\bar{b} and Zc\bar{c}, respectively, and good candidates to test the Standard Model and/or new physics. Here we present a complete computation of these quantities within the Standard Model. We show that decoupling properties with respect to heavy particles do take place in the weak magnetic moment. The obtained values, a_b(M_Z^2)=(2.98-1.56i)x10^(-4) and a_c(M_Z^2)=(-2.80+1.09i)x10^(-5) are dominated by one-gluon exchange diagrams. The electroweak corrections are less than 1% of the total magnitude.

High scale mixing relations as a natural explanation for large neutrino mixing

2015

The origin of small mixing among the quarks and a large mixing among the neutrinos has been an open question in particle physics. In order to answer this question, we postulate general relations among the quarks and the leptonic mixing angles at a high scale, which could be the scale of Grand Unified Theories. The central idea of these relations is that the quark and the leptonic mixing angles can be unified at some high scale either due to some quark-lepton symmetry or some other underlying mechanism and as a consequence, the mixing angles of the leptonic sector are proportional to that of the quark sector. We investigate the phenomenology of the possible relations where the leptonic mixin…

Effect of methyl jasmonate in gene expression, and in hormonal and phenolic profiles of holm oak embryogenic lines before and after infection with Ph…

2022

The dieback syndrome affecting Quercus ilex and other oak species impels the search for tolerant plant genotypes, as well as methods of plant immunization against such infections. Elicitation treatments can be an effective strategy to activate plant defense response and embryogenic lines represent a promising tool to generate new tolerant genotypes and also to study early markers involved in defense response. The aim of the presented work was to investigate changes in gene expression, and in hormonal and phenolic profiles induced in three holm oak embryogenic lines (ELs) elicited with methyl jasmonate (MeJA) before and after infection with the oomycete Phytophthora cinnamomi, which is the m…

Chalcogen adsorption and surface magnetism

2000

Abstract Investigations concerning the electronic and magnetic properties of oxygen and sulfur adsorbed on magnetized surfaces were carried out by means of angle and spin resolving photoelectron spectroscopy. Iron(110), a polycrystalline iron alloy, and an amorphous metallic glass (Fe 79 B 16 Si 5 ) served as ferromagnetic substrates. Exchange splittings of the O 2p and S 3p derived levels could be detected, demonstrating a magnetic coupling between the chemisorbate and iron. This observation presents a prerequisite for an induced magnetic moment within the adsorbate overlayer. For sulfur an adsorbate-induced structure only in the minority spin channel near the Fermi level was observed whic…
