The bacterial cytolethal distending toxin (CDT) was previously shown to arrest the tumor-derived HeLa cell line in the G2-phase of the cell cycle through inactivation of CDK1, a cyclin-dependent kinase whose state of activation determines entry into mitosis. We have analysed the effects induced in HeLa cells by CDT, in comparison to those induced by etoposide, a prototype anti-tumoral agent that triggers a G2 cell cycle checkpoint by inducing DNA damage. Both CDT and etoposide inhibit cell proliferation and induces the formation of enlarged mononucleated cells blocked in G2. Although cancer and diabetes are common diseases, the relationship between diabetes, neuropathy and the risk of developing peripheral sensory neuropathy while or after receiving chemotherapy is uncertain. In this review, we highlight the effects of chemotherapy on the onset or progression of neuropathy in diabetic patients. We searched the literature in Medline and Scopus, covering all entries until 31 January 2021. Programmed cell death‐1 (PD‐1) signaling downregulates the T‐cell response, promoting an exhausted state in tumor‐infiltrating T cells, through mostly unveiled molecular mechanisms. Versican and tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are involved in growth and metastases in several cancers. Here, we investigated the potential role of versican, a matrix proteoglycan, and its correlation with TAMs infiltrates in different stages of two different breast cancer models: spontaneous canine mammary gland carcinomas and the murine 4T1 breast cancer model.
