The proteases of the lectin pathway of complement activation, MASP-1 and MASP-2, are encoded by two separate genes. The MASP1 gene is located on chromosome 3q27, the MASP2 gene on chromosome 1p36.23-31. The genes for the classical complement activation pathway proteases, C1r and C1s, are linked on chromosome 12p13. We have shown that the MASP2 gene encodes two gene products, the 76 kDa MASP-2 serine protease and a plasma protein of 19 kDa, termed MAp19 or sMAP. Both gene products are components of the lectin pathway activation complex. Overlapping self-affine sets of Kakeya type

We compute the Minkowski dimension for a family of self-affine sets on the plane. Our result holds for every (rather than generic) set in the class. Moreover, we exhibit explicit open subsets of this class where we allow overlapping, and do not impose any conditions on the norms of the linear maps. The family under consideration was inspired by the theory of Kakeya sets.
Regularized Regression Incorporating Network Information: Simultaneous Estimation of Covariate Coefficients and Connection Signs

We develop an algorithm that incorporates network information into regression settings. It simultaneously estimates the covariate coefficients and the signs of the network connections (i.e. whether the connections are of an activating or of a repressing type). For the coefficient estimation steps an additional penalty is set on top of the lasso penalty, similarly to Li and Li (2008). We develop a fast implementation for the new method based on coordinate descent. Furthermore, we show how the new methods can be applied to time-to-event data. A family is described with two siblings who suffered at different times from a single episode of meningococcal meningitis by Neisseria meningitidis groups B and C, respectively. In the two subjects, hemolytically active fifth component of complement (C5) was not detectable and antigenic C5 was less than 0.05% and less than 0.7% of normal, respectively. Repletion of sera by purified human C5 (70 micrograms/ml) restored total complement hemolytic activities. The asymptomatic first degree family members had C5 levels compatible with a heterozygous state of C5 deficiency. Abstract This paper introduces an optimized Windowing based strategy for inducing decision trees in Distributed Data Mining scenarios. Windowing consists in selecting a sample of the available training examples (the window) to induce a decision tree with an usual algorithm, e.g., J48; finding instances not covered by this tree (counter examples) in the remaining training examples, adding them to the window to induce a new tree; and repeating until a termination criterion is met.
