Effects of high-pressure on the structural, vibrational, and electronic properties of monazite-type PbCrO4

We have performed an experimental study of the crystal structure, lattice dynamics, and optical properties of PbCrO 4 (the mineral crocoite) at ambient and high pressures. In particular, the crystal structure, Raman-active phonons, and electronic band gap have been accurately determined. X-ray-diffraction, Raman, and optical absorption experiments have allowed us also to completely characterize two pressure-induced structural phase transitions. The first transition is from a monoclinic structure to another monoclinic structure. Polymorphism and “reverse” spin transition in the spin crossover system [Co(4-terpyridone)2](CF3SO3)2·1H2O

[EN] Compound [Co(4-terpyridone)(2)](CF3SO3)(2)center dot 1H(2)O, where 4-terpyridone is 2,6-bis(2-pyridyl)-4(1H)-pyridone, forms two polymorphs. Polymorph 1 displays a continuous spin conversion in the temperature region 300-120 K while polymorph 2 shows, on cooling, the onset of a continuous high-spin (HS) to low-spin (LS) conversion interrupted by an abrupt "reverse'' spin transition in the temperature region 217-203 K. The formed unstable HS intermediate phase (IP) undergoes a strong cooperative "normal'' spin transition characterised by a hysteresis loop 33 K wide. Energy and Personality: A Bridge between Physics and Psychology

[EN] The objective of this paper is to present a mathematical formalism that states a bridge between physics and psychology, concretely between analytical dynamics and personality theory, in order to open new insights in this theory. [EN] Low-spin, high-spin and spin-transition behaviours have been observed for the doubly interpenetrating three-dimensional bimetallic compounds {Fe-II(pz)[Ag(CN)(2)](2)}.pz (pz= pyrazine), {Fe-II(4,4'-bipy)(2)[Ag(CN)(2)](2)} (4,4'-bipy-4,4'-bipyridine), and {Fe-II-(bpe)(2)[Ag(CN)(2)](2)} (bpe = bispyridylethylene), respectively. The single crystals of the bpe derivative undergo a spin transition with a large hysteresis loop at about 95 K. Deprotonation of the ionogenic tetradentate ligand 6,6′-bis(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)-2,2′-bipyridine [H2bipy(ttr)2] in the presence of FeII in solution has afforded an anionic mononuclear complex and a neutral two-dimensional coordination polymer formulated as, respectively, NEt3H{Fe[bipy(ttr)2][Hbipy(ttr)2]}·3MeOH (1) and {Fe[bipy(ttr)2]}n (2). The anions [Hbipy(ttr)2]− and [bipy(ttr)2]2– embrace the FeII centers defining discrete molecular units 1 with the FeII ion lying in a distorted bisdisphenoid dodecahedron, a rare example of octacoordination in the coordination environment of this cation. Selection of amine-oxidizing dairy lactic acid bacteria and identification of the enzyme and gene involved in the decrease of biogenic amines

ABSTRACT Accumulation of biogenic amines (BAs) in cheese and other foods is a matter of public health concern. The aim of this study was to identify the enzyme activities responsible for BA degradation in lactic acid bacteria which were previously isolated from traditional Sicilian and Apulian cheeses. The selected strains would control the concentration of BAs during cheese manufacture. First, 431 isolates not showing genes encoding the decarboxylases responsible for BA formation were selected using PCR-based methods.
