Cluster-determinant 36 (CD36) impacts on vitamin E postprandial response

2014

International audience; Scope: A single nucleotide polymorphism in the cluster determinant 36 (CD36) gene has recently been associated with plasma alpha-tocopherol concentration, suggesting a possible role of this protein in vitamin E intestinal absorption or tissue uptake. Methods and results: To investigate the involvement of CD36 in vitamin E transport, we first evaluated the effect of CD36 on alpha- and gamma-tocopherol transmembrane uptake and efflux using transfected HEK cells. gamma-Tocopherol postprandial response was then assessed in CD36-deficient mice compared with wild-type mice, after the mice had been fully characterized for their alpha -tocopherol, vitamin A and lipid plasma,…

Regulatory T Cells Accumulate and Proliferate in the Ischemic Hemisphere for up to 30 Days after MCAO

2012

Local and peripheral immune responses are activated after ischemic stroke. In our present study, we investigated the temporal distribution, location, induction, and function of regulatory T cells (Tregs) and the possible involvement of microglia, macrophages, and dendritic cells after middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO). C57BL/6J and Foxp3EGFP transgenic mice were subjected to 30 minutes MCAO. On days 7, 14, and 30 after MCAO, Tregs and antigen presenting cells were analyzed using fluorescence activated cell sorting multicolor staining and immunohistochemistry. A strong accumulation of Tregs was observed on days 14 and 30 in the ischemic hemisphere accompanied by the elevated presence …

A method to enable the investigation of murine bronchial immune cells, their cytokines and mediators.

2007

Innovative therapies for severe lung diseases (such as allergic and chronic asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or any type of lung cancer) require a detailed understanding of the cellular and immune processes in the lung. This protocol details a method to obtain the immune cells of the bronchi as well as the cytokines and mediators produced by these cells for further investigation. The broncho-alveolar lavage fluid (BALF) is taken by injecting physiological solution through the tracheal tube into the murine airways and carefully regained by winding up the connected syringe. After centrifugation, the resulting BALF supernatant can be stored for detection of cytokines or other medi…

Prospective Study of the Evolution of Blood Lymphoid Immune Parameters during Dacarbazine Chemotherapy in Metastatic and Locally Advanced Melanoma Pa…

2014

BackgroundThe importance of immune responses in the control of melanoma growth is well known. However, the implication of these antitumor immune responses in the efficacy of dacarbazine, a cytotoxic drug classically used in the treatment of melanoma, remains poorly understood in humans.MethodsIn this prospective observational study, we performed an immunomonitoring of eleven metastatic or locally advanced patients treated with dacarbazine as a first line of treatment. We assessed by flow cytometry lymphoid populations and their activation state; we also isolated NK cells to perform in vitro cytotoxicity tests.ResultsWe found that chemotherapy induces lymphopenia and that a significantly hig…

Experimental conditions for respiration and growth studies of F0 and F1 larval and juvenile European seabass Dicentrarchus labrax

2022

Water parameters in the 2 years before spawning of F0 (08.02.2016-06.03.2018) and during larval and juvenile phase of F1: Larval period until 17.05.2018 (48 dph, 900 dd) and 01.06.2018 (63 dph, ~900 dd) for warm and cold life condition respectively, for the juveniles until 28.09.2018 (180 dph, ~4000 dd) and 12.02.2019 (319 dph, ~5100 dd) for warm and cold conditioned fish respectively. Means ± s.e. over all replicate tanks per condition. Temperature (Temp.), pH (free scale), salinity, oxygen and total alkalinity (TA) were measured weekly in F1 and monthly in F0; sea water (SW) measurements were conducted in 2017 and 2018. Water parameters during larval and early juvenile phase of F0: Larval…

EUROMEDITERRANEAN BIOMEDICAL JOURNAL (EMBJ) TO SUPPORT THE INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR GRANTS FROM THE ITALIAN INSTITUTE OF HEALTH DEDICATED TO YOUNG RESE…

2022

EuroMediterranean Biomedical Journal (EMBJ) can be considered both a scientific journal and a learning tool for “researchers-in-training” coming from Euro-Mediterranean Countries and other areas of the globe. We announce the launch of an international call for grants from Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS, the Italian National Institute Health), reserved to young Italian and foreign researchers. We strongly encourage the junior researchers that have authored manuscripts published in EMBJ to consider the application to this extraordinary opportunity.
