How to engineer biologically inspired cognitive architectures

Biologically inspired cognitive architectures are complex systems where different modules of cognition interact in order to reach the global goals of the system in a changing environment. Engineering and modeling this kind of systems is a hard task due to the lack of techniques for developing and implementing features like learning, knowledge, experience, memory, adaptivity in an inter-modular fashion. We propose a new concept of intelligent agent as abstraction for developing biologically cognitive architectures. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) proteins are important players in the management of responses to stressful conditions, such as drought, high salinity, and changes in temperature. Many LEA proteins do not have defined three-dimensional structures, so they are intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) and are often highly hydrophilic. Although LEA-like sequences have been identified in bacterial genomes, the functions of bacterial LEA proteins have been studied only recently. Varieties of algebras with pseudoinvolution: Codimensions, cocharacters and colengths

Abstract Let A be a finitely generated superalgebra with pseudoinvolution ⁎ over an algebraically closed field F of characteristic zero. In this paper we develop a theory of polynomial identities for this kind of algebras . In particular, we shall consider three sequences that can be attached to Id ⁎ ( A ) , the T 2 ⁎ -ideal of identities of A: the sequence of ⁎-codimensions c n ⁎ ( A ) , the sequence of ⁎-cocharacter χ 〈 n 〉 ⁎ ( A ) and the ⁎-colength sequence l n ⁎ ( A ) . Multiplicative loops of 2-dimensional topological quasifields

We determine the algebraic structure of the multiplicative loops for locally compact $2$-dimensional topological connected quasifields. In particular, our attention turns to multiplicative loops which have either a normal subloop of positive dimension or which contain a $1$-dimensional compact subgroup. In the last section we determine explicitly the quasifields which coordinatize locally compact translation planes of dimension $4$ admitting an at least $7$-dimensional Lie group as collineation group.

Hyper-abelian groups with finite co-central rank

AbstractA group G has finite co-central rank s if there exists a least non-negative integer s such that every finitely generated subgroup H can be generated by at most s elements modulo the centre of H. The investigation of such groups has been started in [J.P. Sysak, A. Tresch, J. Group Theory 4 (2001) 325]. It is proved that hyper-abelian groups with finite co-central rank are locally soluble. The interplay between the Prüfer rank condition, the condition of having finite abelian section rank and the finite co-central rank condition is studied. Co-learnability and FIN-identifiability of enumerable classes of total recursive functions

Co-learnability is an inference process where instead of producing the final result, the strategy produces all the natural numbers but one, and the omitted number is an encoding of the correct result. It has been proved in [1] that co-learnability of Goedel numbers is equivalent to EX-identifiability. We consider co-learnability of indices in recursively enumerable (r.e.) numberings. The power of co-learnability depends on the numberings used. Every r.e. class of total recursive functions is co-learnable in some r.e. numbering.
