RECOGNIZABLE PICTURE LANGUAGES

1992

The purpose of this paper is to propose a new notion of recognizability for picture (two-dimensional) languages extending the characterization of one-dimensional recognizable languages in terms of local languages and alphabetic mappings. We first introduce the family of local picture languages (denoted by LOC) and, in particular, prove the undecidability of the emptiness problem. Then we define the new family of recognizable picture languages (denoted by REC). We study some combinatorial and language theoretic properties of REC such as ambiguity, closure properties or undecidability results. Finally we compare the family REC with the classical families of languages recognized by four-way a…

Elevation Cable Modeling for Interactive Simulation of Cranes

2008

In this paper, the way to simulate hoisting cables in real time is addressed. We overcome instability in such simulation by considering a two-layered model: a model for the dynamics of a cable passing through a set of pulleys and an oscillation model based on the classical one-dimensional wave equation. The first layer considers the interaction between the cable and pulleys with the elevation equipment, while the second layer simulates cable oscillation. Numerical instability is avoided by suspending the oscillation layer when required. Due to the system properties, this can be carried out in such a way that does not cause significant loss in the system quality. It considers the oscillation…

Genetic diversity in Cytisus aeolicus Guss. (Leguminosae), a rare endemite of the Italian flora

1998

ABSTRACT Cytisus aeolicus Guss, is an endemic plant restricted to the isles of Vulcano, Stromboli and Alicudi in the Aeolian archipelago. All known populations were assayed for genetic variability using enzyme polymorphism. Allozyme variation at 16 loci coding for 10 enzyme systems was examined. The great majority of loci turned out to be monomorphic or fixed heterozygous. The observed genetic depauperation is indicative of historical factors, such as the bottleneck effect associated with migration, and the founder effect in population re-establishment. The low genetic diversity is largely partitioned within rather than among populations, indicating that extant populations have not been est…

A report on the conservation status of segetal weeds in Tajikistan

2014

Summary Intensification of agriculture has significantly diminished the populations of segetal weeds worldwide in recent decades. Remarkable changes to the entire flora and vegetation of man-made habitats are being observed in agroecosystems. The present study analyses, for the first time, the threat status of segetal weeds in Tajikistan. A group of 871 weed species were evaluated against IUCN criteria. The assessment of threat status revealed that 214 weed taxa have to be regarded as threatened in Tajikistan, including 18 endemic and four subendemic plants. Five species have been classified as extinct, 27 as critically endangered, 27 as endangered, 39 as vulnerable, 34 as near threatened a…

Intracranial Pressure and Mass Displacements of the Intracranial Contents

1976

The brain is completely surrounded by the bony skull and its closely adherent, tough, dural inner lining. This converts the enclosed space into a watertight chamber with the exception of the small, basally situated foramen magnum. In adults, these factors combine to prevent the skull from expanding. Consequently, the intracranial volume cannot fluctuate. In addition, the intracranial contents — blood, brain, and spinal fluid — are essentially noncompressible.

MLOG: a strongly typed confluent functional language with logical variables

1994

Poirriez, V., MLOG: a strongly typed confluent functional language with logical variables, Theoretical Computer Science 122 (1994) 201-223. A new programming language called MLOG is introduced. MLOG is a conservative extension of ML with logical variables. To validate our concepts, a compiler named CAML Light FLU0 was implemented. Numerous examples are presented to illustrate the possibilities of MLOG. The pattern matching of ML is kept for X-calculus bindings and an unification primitive is introduced for the logical variables bindings. A suspension mechanism allows cohabitation of pattern-matching and logical variables, Although the evaluation strategy for the application is fixed, the or…

The nuclear protein Sge1 of Fusarium oxysporum is required for parasitic growth

2009

Dimorphism or morphogenic conversion is exploited by several pathogenic fungi and is required for tissue invasion and/or survival in the host. We have identified a homolog of a master regulator of this morphological switch in the plant pathogenic fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici. This non-dimorphic fungus causes vascular wilt disease in tomato by penetrating the plant roots and colonizing the vascular tissue. Gene knock-out and complementation studies established that the gene for this putative regulator, SGE1 (SIX Gene Expression 1), is essential for pathogenicity. In addition, microscopic analysis using fluorescent proteins revealed that Sge1 is localized in the nucleus, is no…

Prevalence of Apical Periodontitis in patients with Multiple Myeloma

2020

Background Aim Previous reports have been analyzed the prevalence/association of apical periodontitis (AP) with systemic diseases. The present study aims to analyze the prevalence of healthy/diseased periapex and endodontic treatments in patients with Multiple Myeloma (MM) and compare the results with those of control subjects. Material and Methods Methodology Panoramic radiographs of 50 individuals with MM were evaluated and compared with 50 controls that were sex and age matched exactly with the diseased group. Radiographic analysis was performed by 2 two experienced endodontists under standardized conditions. The periapical status (presence or not of AP) was assessed using the periapical…

Isolation and characterization of extracellular vesicles in Candida albicans

2020

Background : The occurrence of systemic infections due to C. albicans has increased especially in critically ill patients. In fungal infections, secretory mechanisms are key events for disease establishment. Recent findings demonstrate that fungal organisms release many molecular components to the extracellular space in extracellular vesicles. Aims: We develop a method to obtain exosomes from yeast cultures of the Candida albicans . Methods : Yeast strains used in this work were C. albicans SC5314, C. parapsilosis (ATCC 22019) and C. krusei (ATCC 6258). Yeasts were grown at 37.º in liquid YPD medium. The cell cultures were centrifuged and the supernatant filtered through sterile nitrocellul…
