UV camera measurements of fumarole field degassing (La Fossa crater, Vulcano Island)
2011
UV camera measurement at a dormant volcano
2010
The UV camera is now becoming a new important tool in the armory of volcano geochemists for high rate SO2 flux measurements. The high spatial resolution of the camera is particularly useful for exploring multiple-source SO2 gas emissions, as the large composite fumarolic systems topping most quiescent volcanoes. We report here on the first SO2 flux measurements from individual fumaroles of the fumarolic field of La Fossa crater (Vulcano island, Aeolian island), which we performed using a UV camera in two field campaigns on November 12, 2009 and February 4, 2010. Making advantage of the high temporal and spatial resolution of the UV camera, we derived ~0.5 Hz SO2 flux time-series for the mai…
Vulcamera: a program for measuring volcanic SO2 with UV cameras
2011
UV Cameras for volcanic monitoring
2011
This work, following the field setup of Kantzas et al (2010), with the addition of a single point DOAS telescope, investigated the range of data available utilizing a two camera, dual filter setup and demonstrated its value for future use in the study of degassing volcanic systems.
Intercomparison of instruments for measuring leaf area index over rice
2015
Leaf area index (LAI) is a key biophysical parameter used to determine foliage cover and crop growth in environmental studies in order to assess crop yield. LAI estimates can be classified as direct or indirect methods. Direct methods are destructive, time consuming, and difficult to apply over large fields. Indirect methods are non-destructive and cost-effective due to its portability, accuracy and repeatability. In this study, we compare indirect LAI estimates acquired from two classical instruments such as LAI-2000 and digital cameras for hemispherical photography, with LAI estimates acquired with a smart app (PocketLAI) installed on a mobile smartphone. In this work it is shown that LAI…
Hulot's Selinunte: digital analysis and virtual reconstruction
2021
Some drawings feature a powerful evocative nature, capable of presenting a truthful vision that can replace, in collective imagination, the actual expression of reality. This is the case of the "restorations" of Selinunte proposed by the French architect Jean-Louis Hulot (Paris 1871 -1959) which still today evoke the splendours of the ancient city. Thanks to his accurate surveys and inspired by the visit to the remains of further ancient cities such as Priene, Tera, Delos, and Pompeii, Hulot proposed in his watercolour drawings a vision of a "living" city, rendered at the height of its architectural and social magnificence. The paper presents a study on digital solutions that combine data f…
Hybrid foveated vision system for video surveillance and robotic navigation
2014
The primary goal of this thesis is to elaborate a binocular vision system using two different types of camera. The system studied here is composed of one omnidirectional camera coupled with a PTZ camera. This heterogeneous association of cameras having different characteristics is called a hybrid stereo-vision system. The couple composed of these two cameras combines the advantages given by both of them, that is to say a large field of view and an accurate vision of a particular Region of interest with an adjustable level of details using the zoom. In this thesis, we are presenting multiple contributions in visual tracking using omnidirectional sensors, PTZ camera self calibration, hybrid v…
Visual Control of a Robotic Hand
2004
The paper deals with the design and implementation of a visual control of a robotic system composed of a dexterous hand and stereo cameras. The aim of the proposed system is to reproduce the movements of a human hand in order to learn complex manipulation tasks. A novelty algorithm for a robust and fast fingertips localization and tracking is presented. Moreover, a simulator is integrated in the system to give useful feedbacks to the users during operations, and provide robust testing framework for real experiments (see video).
Migraciones y colonización de un territorio bajo disputa territorial en la Península de Yucatán, México / / / \ \ \ Migration and colonization of a t…
2020
Toward a virtual reconstruction of an antique three-dimensional marble puzzle
2017
International audience; Abstract | Introduction | Related Work | Acquisition Setup, Proposed Prototype: Calibration and Visibility | Preprocessing of Scanned Three-Dimensional Fragment Data | Processing of Scanned Three-Dimensional Surface Data: Matching | Conclusion and Future Works | Appendices | Acknowledgments | ReferencesAbstract. The reconstruction of broken objects is an important field of research for many applications, such as art restoration, surgery, forensics, and solving puzzles. In archaeology, the reconstruction of broken artifacts is a very time-consuming task due to the handling of fractured objects, which are generally fragile. However, it can now be supported by three-dim…
