Exploratory Synthesis of Low-Silica Nanozeolites through Geopolymer Chemistry

Nanozeolites are of great interest with the premise of their efficiency in traditional applications such as catalysis and separation, as well as their emerging applications including chemical sensors, medicine, and food industry. We report a new geopolymerization route for the synthesis of nanozeolites with different crystal structures by exploring the Na–Al–Si–H2O quaternary phase space under a mild hydrothermal condition. SUMMARY 1. Aquatic invertebrates display a wide array of alternative reproductive modes from apomixis to hermaphroditism and cyclical parthenogenesis. These have important effects on genetic diversity and population structure. An average structure model of the intermediate phase between sodalite and cancrinite

Abstract Powder samples of the intermediate phase between sodalite and cancrinite (INT) have been synthesized hydrothermally. The formation of the INT phase was proved by both PXRD and TGA analysis and its stoichiometric composition was found to be |Na6.95(1)(CO3)0.48(2) (H2O)6.18(6)|[AlSiO4]6. The comparison of the intensity ratios of PXRD data with a SCXRD measurement indicates the formation of a comparable phase with the typical strong stacking disorder. The hexagonal lattice parameters with a=1266.3(2) pm and c=1586(1) pm and the unit cell setting were determined by Pawley fits. Template-free synthesis and structural evolution of discrete hydroxycancrinite zeolite nanorods from high-concentration hydrogels.

We report the synthesis and characterization of hydroxycancrinite zeolite nanorods by a simple hydrothermal treatment of aluminosilicate hydrogels at high concentrations of precursors without the use of structure-directing agents. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis reveals that cancrinite nanorods, with lengths of 200-800 nm and diameters of 30-50 nm, exhibit a hexagonal morphology and are elongated along the crystallographic c direction. Oxygen binding and its allosteric control in hemoglobin of the primitive branchiopod crustacean Triops cancriformis

Branchiopod crustaceans are endowed with extracellular, high-molecular-mass hemoglobins (Hbs), the functional and allosteric properties of which have largely remained obscure. The Hb of the phylogenetically ancient Triops cancriformis (Notostraca) revealed moderate oxygen affinity, cooperativity and pH dependence (Bohr effect) coefficients: P50 = 13.3 mmHg, n50 = 2.3, and ϕ = −0.18, at 20 °C and pH 7.44 in Tris buffer. The in vivo hemolymph pH was 7.52. Bivalent cations increased oxygen affinity, Mg2+ exerting a greater effect than Ca2+. Can large branchiopods shape microcrustacean communities in Mediterranean temporary wetlands?

It was recently suggested that large branchiopods may play a keystone role in temporary aquatic habitats. Using a microcosm experiment manipulating microcrustacean communities of Mediterranean temporary wetlands (Camargue, Southern France), we tested the following hypotheses: (i) large branchiopods (the notostracan Triops cancriformis and the anostracan Chirocephalus diaphanus) can limit microcrustacean densities through both competition and predation; (ii) notostracans create high suspended-matter concentrations through bioturbation, which can negatively impact microcrustaceans; and (iii) the outcome of these biotic interactions is more detrimental at high salinities.
