Tumor-growth is often associated with the expansion of myeloid derived suppressor cells that lead to local or systemic arginine depletion via the enzyme arginase. It is generally assumed that this arginine deficiency induces a global shut-down of T cell activation with ensuing tumor immune escape. Investigating a simplified method for noninvasive genetic sampling in East African mammals using silica dried scat swabs

Abstract Swabbing scat has proved to be an effective noninvasive method to collect DNA from mammals in the field. Previously, this method has relied on preservative liquids or freezing to preserve the DNA collected on swabs. In this study, we determine the effectiveness of using silica to simply dry the swab in field as an alternative way to prevent DNA degredation. Four species were included in the study; reticulated giraffe, impala, fringe‐eared oryx, and lion. Swabs were taken at multiple time points for giraffe and impala scat samples, with the lion and oryx sampled opportunistically. Growth form matters – Crustose lichens on dead wood are sensitive to forest management

Lichens have a vital role in forest ecosystems and they are a threatened group in boreal forests. However, the conservation ecology of the total lichen community has very rarely been studied. Here we studied lichen species and communities, including macrolichens (=foliose and fruticose growth forms) and rarely studied crustose li-chens, on decaying wood in boreal spruce-dominated forests in Finland. We also studied obligate lignicoles that grow only on dead wood and are mostly crustose in growth form. Size dependent carrier thermal escape and transfer in bimodally distributed self assembled InAs/GaAs quantum dots

We have investigated the temperature dependent recombination dynamics in two bimodally distributed InAs self assembled quantum dots samples. A rate equations model has been implemented to investigate the thermally activated carrier escape mechanism which changes from exciton-like to uncorrelated electron and hole pairs as the quantum dot size varies. For the smaller dots, we find a hot exciton thermal escape process. We evaluated the thermal transfer process between quantum dots by the quantum dot density and carrier escape properties of both samples. © 2012 American Institute of Physics.

Šī mērķa sasniegšanai uzņēmumā tika ieviesti sekojoši risinājumi - VMware virtualizācijas platforma un Ubuntu Landscape centralizētās vadības sistēma, kā arī uzlabotas iespējas veikt rezerves kopiju veidošanu un uzņēmuma sistēmu pārraudzību. Darba rezultātā sasniegtais samazināja laika un darba apjomu, kas nepieciešams uzņēmuma IT infrastruktūras uzturēšanai.

Equilibrium properties of the reaction H2⇌ 2H by classical molecular dynamics simulations

We have developed a classical molecular dynamics model for the hydrogen dissociation reaction, containing two- and three-particle potentials derived by Kohen, Tully and Stillinger. Two fluid densities were investigated for a wide range of temperatures, and 11 fluid densities were considered for one temperature. We report the temperature range where the degree of reaction is significant, and also where a stable molecule dominates the population in the energy landscape. The three-particle potential, which is essential for the reaction model and seldom studied, together with the two-particle interaction lead to a large effective excluded volume diameter of the molecules in the molecular fluid.…
