Summary: Alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) represents a major public health problem worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, the highest levels of per capita alcohol consumption are observed in countries of the European Region. Alcohol consumption is also alarmingly increasing in developing countries. ALD is one of the main contributors to the burden of alcohol-attributable deaths and disability. Blood pressure variability and cardiovascular risk in 9 eastern european countries: data from the BP-Care study

Methods: Total 327 patients were enrolled from 2008 to 2011 in the Korean registry program. They met the criteria of PAH and we investigated the clinical data, the medication prescribed and survival status et al. Results: Their mean age was 40.8 15.8years with female /male patient ratio of 2.7:1. The patients in WHO I/II were 32.4% and WHO III/IV were 67.6%. The peak/mean pulmonary arterial pressure was 86.3/ 56.6 mmHg. Idiopathic PAH (22%), connective tissue disease (24%) and congenital heart disease (46%) were predominant. Climate change is a severe public health challenge. Understanding to what extent fatal and non-fatal consequences of specific diseases are associated with temperature may help to improve the effectiveness of preventive public health efforts. This study examines the effects of temperature on deaths and hospital admissions by cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, empathizing the difference between mortality and morbidity.

Rolipram inhibits airway microvascular leakage induced by platelet-activating factor, histamine and bradykinin in guinea-pigs.

Abstract Rolipram (0·1–1000 μg kg−1, i.v.) reduced the increase in microvascular permeability induced by platelet-activating factor (PAF; 50 ng kg−1, i.v.) at different sites of the guinea-pig airways. Rolipram (1–100μg kg−1, i.v.) inhibited histamine (30μg kg−1, i.v.)-and bradykinin (0·3 μg kg, i.v.)-induced airway microvascular leakage. These effects of rolipram were obtained at doses which inhibit histamine (7–20 μg kg−1 min−1)-induced bronchoconstriction (IC50 = 3 ± 1 μg kg, i.v.) without depressing arterial blood pressure in the guinea-pig. Aminophylline (50 mg kg−1) did not change the effect of PAF. The anti-exudative effect of rolipram is of potential therapeutic value in asthma.

The effects of 3 phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors, rolipram (PDE IV), milrinone (PDE III) and theophylline (non-selective) on PAF (50 ng kg-1; iv)-induced airway vascular leakage have been evaluated in guinea-pigs. Rolipram (3-300 micrograms kg-1; iv) reduced the increase in permeability induced by PAF at all airway levels whereas milrinone (10-1000 micrograms kg-1; iv) and theophylline (30 mg kg-1; iv) were without effects. The anti-leakage activity of rolipram may be of therapeutic value in asthma.

Using samples of many human blood vessels, obtained at autopsy and specific antibodies directed to peptide sequences of the kinin B1 and B2 receptors, we demonstrate the localisation of these receptors within the human vascular system using standard immunolabelling techniques. In large elastic arteries and veins, kinin receptors are present only in the endothelial cells whereas in all muscular arteries and arterioles, these receptors are present in both the endothelial and smooth muscle cells. Assessing alcohol consumption through wastewater-based epidemiology: Spain as a case study

Background In this study, an alternative and complementary method to those approaches currently used to estimate alcohol consumption by the population is described. This method, known as wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE), allows back-calculating the alcohol consumption rate in a given population from the concentrations of a selected biomarker measured in wastewater. Methods Composite (24-h) wastewater samples were collected at the inlet of 17 wastewater treatment plants located in 13 Spanish cities for seven consecutive days in 2018.
