Palliative Cancer Patients’ Experiences of Participating in a Lifestyle Intervention Study While Receiving Chemotherapy

2015

Background Lifestyle interventions have promise in terms of their potential health benefits and as an empowerment tool for cancer patients. Nevertheless, documentation of palliative cancer patients experiences of participating in lifestyle interventions remains poor. Objective The objective of this study was to explore how palliative cancer patients experience participation in a feasibility study focusing on multiple lifestyle interventions (physical, nutritional, smoking cessation, and stress management) while receiving chemotherapy. Methods This was a qualitative design with semistructured interviews of 9 palliative cancer patients 3 to 4 months after inclusion to the lifestyle interventi…

A translational approach to design effective intervention tools for informal caregivers of dependent cancer patients.

2019

OBJECTIVES: Caregivers of terminal patients often report a higher prevalence of unmet needs than cancer survivors. However, very few interventions have been carried out to support caregivers of patients in advanced stages, and, in most cases, they have not been rigorously designed and evaluated. The ultimate aim of this research was to obtain specific information about the sociodemographic characteristics, the different types of care provided, the symptoms due to burdens, the impact of caring on the quality of life, and the unmet needs of informal caregivers of dependent patients with cancer. This is to design effective intervention programs that can be implemented from the hospital setting…

Impact of pharmaceutical intervention on quality of life and coping strategies in patients with haematological malignancies

2015

Summary Objectives We conducted a prospective study approved by the local ethics committee to determine the impact of a pharmaceutical intervention (PI) on pain, fatigue, quality of life (QoL) and coping strategies in patients with HMs starting chemotherapy sessions. Material and methods Patients received either usual care (UC) + PI (PI group) or UC alone (UC group). They had to complete 2 questionnaires, QLQ-C30 and MAC 21, at 3 different time points: before starting the 1st chemotherapy session (T1), during the intercure (T2) and the day before starting the 2nd chemotherapy session (T3). To determine predictive factors of pain, fatigue, QoL and coping scores at T3, a multivariate ANOVA wa…

Long-term cost-effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy versus psychodynamic therapy in social anxiety disorder.

2015

Background To determine the cost-effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) versus psychodynamic therapy (PDT) in the treatment of social anxiety disorder after a follow-up of 30 months from a societal perspective. Methods This analysis was conducted alongside the multicenter SOPHO-NET trial; adults with a primary diagnosis of social anxiety disorder received CBT (n = 209) or PDT (n = 207). Data on health care utilization and productivity loss were collected at baseline, after 6 months (posttreatment), and three further follow-ups to calculate direct and indirect costs. Anxiety-free days (AFDs) calculated based on remission and response were used as measure of effect. The increment…

Influenza vaccination of primary healthcare physicians may be associated with vaccination in their patients: a vaccination coverage study

2015

Background: To assess the contribution of physician-related factors, especially their influenza vaccine status, in the vaccination coverage of their patients. Methods: A study of vaccination coverage was carried out in Spain in 2011–12. The dependent variable (vaccination coverage in patients aged ≥65 years) was obtained from regional records. Information was gathered on the vaccination of physicians through an anonymous web survey. We compared the vaccination coverage of patients with the vaccination of their physicians using the Student t test. Associations were determined using a multilevel regression model. Results: The coverage in patients aged ≥ 65 years was 56.3% and was higher (57.3…

Intensive care nurses' attitudes and the way they address their care are thus vital. Despite a range of studies revealing that health professionals hold anti-fat attitudes towards obese patients, there is a lack of knowledge about intensive care nurses' implicit and explicit attitudes and if such attitudes are associated with behavioural intention.A cross-sectional survey. From November 2017 - …
