Strong quantum scarring by local impurities

2016

We discover and characterize strong quantum scars, or eigenstates resembling classical periodic orbits, in two-dimensional quantum wells perturbed by local impurities. These scars are not explained by ordinary scar theory, which would require the existence of short, moderately unstable periodic orbits in the perturbed system. Instead, they are supported by classical resonances in the unperturbed system and the resulting quantum near-degeneracy. Even in the case of a large number of randomly scattered impurities, the scars prefer distinct orientations that extremize the overlap with the impurities. We demonstrate that these preferred orientations can be used for highly efficient transport of…

Pressure broadening, shift, and interference effect for a multiplet line in the rovibrational anisotropic stimulated raman spectrum of molecular oxyg…

1996

0022-2852; High-resolution stimulated inverse Raman spectroscopy has been applied to the study of collisional broadening, shifting, and line mixing for the O-o(J, N = 5) triplet line of the fundamental vibrational band of molecular oxygen. Accurate line broadening coefficients for the individual J components within the triplet have been measured for the first time and show a significant J dependence. The line broadening coefficients are larger than those previously obtained for unresolved pure rotational Raman lines. The additional broadening is expected to result from electronic spin relaxation. The pressure-induced line shift has been obtained for this Line and compared to the value obtai…

A vorticity based aeroacoustic prediction for the noise emission of a low-speed turbulent internal flow

2003

Abstract Turbulent internal flows are known to generate intense noise as well as surface pressure fluctuations. Numerically predicting the noise emission near the prescribed boundaries requires that the sound-generating turbulent flow be adequately represented and described. The k – e method provides a promising tool for obtaining the unsteady characteristics of a realistic turbulent flow interacting with a rectangular flat plate undergoing “ground effect”. The far-field acoustic calculation is facilitated by the Kambe model (from Lighthill’s theory) and an original post-processor has been developed to determine the far-field spectra and the source term characteristics. In pre-processed tur…

Improving the management of potentially predictable hospital readmissions of the elderly and their quality of life through new icts

2013

3rd International Conference on the Elderly and New Technologies. III Jornadas Internacionales de Mayores y Nuevas Tecnologías. The ageing population is currently beginning to create economic repercussions, as ageing often implies an increase of health expenditure related to, specially, hospital admissions and/or unplanned readmissions and long term care services. The present paper deals with two strategies that could be implemented through the establishment and use of new technologies to avoid these increasing costs: 1) screening tools of health information systems aimed at identifying patients at risk of hospital readmissions or repeated use of health resources; and 2) new icts at elderly…

Hydrogen CARS thermometry in H2-N2 mixtures at high pressure and medium temperatures: influence of linewidths models

2000

International audience; In order to improve the accuracy of H2 CARS thermometry, H2 Q-branch CARS spectra have been recorded for various H2-N2 mixtures in a high-pressure cell at different pressures and temperatures (up to 40 bar and 875 K). Due to the low spectral resolution of broadband CARS experiments, the relevant spectral lineshape factor is the linewidth ratio G(Q(3))/G(Q(1)), since Q(1) and Q(3) are the most intense lines of the Q-branch spectrum in this temperature range. For the first time, the speed-inhomogeneous effects are accounted for in the simulation of the CARS profiles. The evaluated temperatures are in good agreement with reference values obtained by thermocouples. The s…

Rotational CARS thermometry at high temperature (1800 K) and high pressure (0.1-1.55 MPa)

2007

International audience; Dual-broadband rotational CARS (DB-RCARS) thermometry has been investigated at high temperature and high pressure. Single-shot measurements were performed at 1800 K, in air and nitrogen at pressures up to 1.55 MPa and in oxygen at pressures up to 0.5 MPa. For all conditions, the resonant signal contribution to the spectra clearly dominated over the non-resonant one, implying the high potential for DB-RCARS for temperature and concentration measurements also at the high temperatures and pressures used in the present investigation. The relative standard deviation was generally similar to 2% for single-shot data at pressures from 0.5 to 1.55 MPa. At the investigated tem…

Repeated pull-through surgery for complicated Hirschsprung's disease--principles derived from clinical experience.

2007

Abstract Background In some patients, an initial pull-through procedure for Hirschsprung's disease fails, and obstructive symptoms persist or recur. Then a repeated pull-through operation may be necessary. Methods Seventeen patients with Hirschsprung's disease aged 2 to 9 years (median, 4.6 years) have undergone a repeated pull-through procedure because of unresponsive symptoms after an initial operation. The initial procedure was Soave in 3 patients, Rehbein in 13 patients, and Duhamel in 1 patient. Surgical revision was indicated by incomplete resection of the transition zone in 16 patients, anastomotic strictures in 9 patients, and fistulas in 2 patients. All 17 patients have undergone R…

Seismogenic rotational slumps and translational glides in pelagic deep-water carbonates. Upper Tithonian-Berriasian of Southern Tethyan margin (W Sic…

2017

Abstract Soft-sediment deformation structures (SSDSs), which reflect sediment mobilization processes, are helpful to identify punctual events of paleoenvironmental stresses. In the upper Tithonian-Berriasian calpionellid pelagic limestone of the Lattimusa Fm. outcropping in the Barracu section (W Sicily), paleoenvironmental restoration reveals the occurrence of a deep-water flat basin, characterised by undeformed planar bedding, laterally passing to a gentle slope where the deformed horizons alternate with undeformed beds. Here, two types of gravity slides have been differentiated on the basis of different kinds of SSDSs, brittle deformation, involved lithofacies, geometry and morphology. T…
