All nymphal instars of the recently discovered troglobitic planthopper species Valenciolenda fadaforesta Hoch & Sendra, 2021 are described. This represents the first documentation of the complete postembryonic development of any species in the family Kinnaridae. Characters of the external morphology are described and illustrated, and a key to the instars are provided to facilitate discrimination among the different nymphal stages. While V. fadaforesta nymphs share certain synapomorphies with other Fulgoromorpha (except the Tettigometridae), e.g., the cog-wheel structures of the metatrochanters, other characters may be correlated with the subterranean way of life of the species, and thus…

Free radicals and oxidants are now implicated in physiological responses and in several diseases. Given the wide range of expertise of free radical researchers, application of the greater understanding of chemistry has not been uniformly applied to biological studies. We suggest that some widely used methodologies and terminologies hamper progress and need to be addressed. We make the case for abandonment and judicious use of several methods and terms and suggest practical and viable alternatives. Cloning and characterization of Scavidin, a fusion protein for the targeted delivery of biotinylated molecules.

We have constructed a novel fusion protein "Scavidin" consisting of the macrophage scavenger receptor class A and avidin. The Scavidin fusion protein is transported to plasma membranes where the avidin portion of the fusion protein binds biotin with high affinity and forms the basis for the targeted delivery of biotinylated molecules. Subcellular fractionation analysis, immunostaining, and electron microscopy demonstrated endosomal localization of the fusion protein. The interspecific fungal biodiversity (Illumina Mi-Seq) and the dynamics of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Brettanomyces bruxellensis species were studied in a new winery and/or in 3 aging cellars, more specifically on the floor, the walls, the equipment and the outside of the barrels. In the new winery, an initial fungal consortium (yeasts and molds) is already present on all the winery environments before the arrival of the first harvest. This consortium consists of fungal genera such as Aureobasidium, Alternaria, Didymella and Filobasidium. In this article I will scrutinize Screen (2002, by WARDRIP-FRUIN & al.), a literary work set and experienced in a CAVE Virtual Reality environment, especially from the perspective of its temporal aspects. There are obvious themes of remembering, forgetting and textually constructing the past in this work, but most notably, Screen emphasizes the temporality of the reading act itself. I will analyze this highly special work in relation to the remembered, read, and bodily experienced time, and thus, attempt to better understand both the notion of fictive time and the temporality of fiction. peerReviewed

AbstractIn this report we show, by confocal analysis of indirect immunofluorescence, that the type-1 cannabinoid receptor (CB1R), which belongs to the family of G-protein-coupled receptors, is expressed on the plasma membrane in human breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cells. However, a substantial proportion of the receptor is present in lysosomes. We found that CB1R is associated with cholesterol- and sphyngolipid-enriched membrane domains (rafts). Cholesterol depletion by methyl-β-cyclodextrin (MCD) treatment strongly reduces the flotation of the protein on the raft-fractions (DRM) of sucrose density gradients suggesting that CB1 raft-association is cholesterol dependent.
