Oxidative stress triggers cytokinesis failure in hepatocytes upon isolation

Primary hepatocytes are highly differentiated cells and proliferatively quiescent. However, the stress produced during liver digestion seems to activate cell cycle entry by proliferative/dedifferentiation programs that still remain unclear. The aim of this work was to assess whether the oxidative stress associated with hepatocyte isolation affects cell cycle and particularly cytokinesis, the final step of mitosis. Background: Oxidative stress has been linked to such degenerative diseases as atherosclerosis, and it has been suggested that increased dietary intake of antioxidants may reduce its progression. Objective: To determine the effect of mandarin juice consumption on biomarkers related to oxidative stress in hypercholesterolemic children. Objective— Nitrate tolerance is likely attributable to an increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) leading to an inhibition of the mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH-2), representing the nitroglycerin (GTN) and pentaerythrityl tetranitrate (PETN) bioactivating enzyme, and to impaired nitric oxide bioactivity and signaling. The aim of this study was to investigate in vivo and in vitro antioxidant properties of furosemide. In vitro, human red blood cells were submitted to oxidative stress (AAPH), in absence or in presence of different concentrations of furosemide. Potassium efflux was measured in order to quantify the oxidative stress after the action of AAPH on red blood cells. Cavernous haemangioma of the external auditory canal: clinical case and review of the literature.

SUMMARY Although benign vascular lesions are frequent in the head and the neck region, clinical evidence of cavernous haemangioma of the external auditory canal is extremely rare; when present, the lesion invades the middle ear space. Herein, a rare case of a soft mass filling the external auditory canal, not involving the tympanic membrane, in a symptomatic 59-year-old male is described. Clinical and audiological characteristics, imaging studies and surgical treatment with histological evaluation are reported, which led to a diagnosis of a cavernous haemangioma. This paper reports a palaeodietary investigation of the human remains found in the collective Bronze Age burial cave from Vall d'Uixó (Castelló, Spain). Dental pathology, tooth wear as well as buccal dental microwear were analysed. Percentages of dental pathologies were compared with Chalcolithic and Bronze Age sites from the same territory. Dental caries, ante-mortem tooth loss, periodontal disease and abscess frequencies indicate a diet rich in carbohydrate foods. However, dental calculus percentages and macroscopic wear patterns suggest a diet not exclusively relying on agricultural resources. Angioma-Like Pseudometamorphosis in Wilms' Tumors Subjected to Preoperative Radio- and Chemotherapy

Six Wilms' tumors (stage III-V), which had undergone preoperative irradiation and chemotherapy, were examined histologically. While mesenchymal and differentiated epithelial tumor elements were preserved to a large extent, blastemic tumor structures were almost completely lacking. Instead, pseudoangioma-like structures similar to cavernous hemangioma prevailed. As demonstrated by transitional pictures, the pseudoangioma-like pattern is a result of the fact that blastemic tumor elements are replaced by blood after therapy-induced necrosis and lysis. The clinical advantages of preoperative treatment are briefly discussed, especially for patients with advanced tumors.
