Übel, Leid und Erlösung. Die existentielle Botschaft von Naturalismus und Theismus
2018
Punktem sporu uczyniono problem zła i cierpienia. Analiza obydwu stanowisk prowadzi do wniosku, iż naturalizm jest złą nowiną dla ludzkości. Jeśli Boga nie ma, nie m…
Long-term changes in pigmentation of arctic Daphnia provide potential for reconstructing aquatic UV exposure
2016
Abstract Despite the biologically damaging impacts of solar ultraviolet radiation (UV) in nature, little is known about its natural variability, forcing mechanisms, and long-term effects on ecosystems and organisms. Arctic zooplankton, for example the aquatic keystone genus Daphnia (Crustacea, Cladocera) responds to biologically damaging UV by utilizing photoprotective strategies, including pigmentation. We examined the preservation and content of UV-screening pigments in fossil Daphnia remains (ephippia) in two arctic lake sediment cores from Cornwallis Island (Lake R1), Canada, and Spitsbergen (Lake Fugledammen), Svalbard. The aims were to document changes in the degree of UV-protective p…

Relationship between trophic state and plankton community structure in 21 Sicilian dam reservoirs
1994
The relationship between the trophic state of 21 Sicilian dam reservoirs and their taxonomic community structure of phytoplankton (87 taxa) as well as zooplankton (45 taxa) have been examined by means of cluster analysis performed using annual average biomass values. The phytoplankton community structure was closely connected with the trophic state of the reservoirs, whereas the zooplankton community structure was related to hydrological regimes peculiar to the individual water bodies and not to the trophic state. © 1994 Kluwer Academic Publishers.
Chemical Composition of the Essential Oil of Bupleurum Fontanesii (Apiaceae) Growing Wild in Sicily and its Activity on Microorganisms Affecting Hist…
2016
Hydrodistillation of the flowers (BpFl) of and fruits (BpFr) of Bupleurum fontanesii Guss. ex Caruel gave two oils that were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The main components were α-elemol (16.7%), caryophyllene oxide (16.4%) and heptacosane (15.9%) in BpFl, and spathulenol (16.8%), caryophylladienol I (13.2%) and α-elemol (12.8%) in BpFr. A good antimicrobial activity against several microorganisms, including Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Fusarium oxysporum and Aspergillus niger, all infesting historical art craft, was also determined.
Masspektrometrijas metožu izmantošana Glechoma hederacea savvaļas un kultivēto augu polāro šķīdinātāju ekstraktu sastāva salīdzinājumam
2021
Maģistra darbā apkopota literatūra par masspektrometrijas metožu pielietojumu augu ekstraktu kvalitatīvajā un kvantitatīvajā analīzē, kā arī svarīgākajām bioloģiski aktīvo vielu grupām efeju sētložņas (Glechoma hederacea) polāru šķīdinātāju ekstraktos. Veikta Latvijā savvaļā augušo un kultivēto Glechoma hederacea 70% etanola ekstraktu kvalitatīvā un kvantitatīvā analīze, izmantojot šķidruma hromatogrāfijas-masspektrometrijas metodes. Identificēti 10 zināmi bioloģiski aktīvi savienojumi un provizoriski identificēti 9 iepriekš šī auga ekstraktos neaprakstīti savienojumi – fenolskābes un flavonoīdi. Tika noteikts, ka Glechoma hedreacea ekstraktu sastāvs mainās atkarībā no auga augšanas apstākļ…
The chemical composition of the aerial parts essential oil of Achillea cretica L. (Asteraceae) growing wild in Crete (Greece)
2022
Achillea cretica (L.) (Asteraceae) is a suffruticosa camefite plant, mainly distributed in Crete, Aegean Islands, and eastern Mediterranean area. In the present study, the chemical composition of the essential oil from aerial parts of a not previously investigated accession of Achillea cretica, collected in Crete, was analysed by GC-MS. The results showed the presence of large quantity of α-bisabolol (53.88%) followed by the related compound α-bisabolol-oxide (2.76%), and spathulenol (5.94%). Based on the composition of the essential oils of all the other Achillea taxa, several consideration have been carried out.
The chemical composition of the aerial parts essential oil of Ferulago nodosa (L.) Boiss. (Apiaceae) growing wild in Crete (Greece)
2023
Ferulago nodosa (L.) Boiss. (Apiaceae) is a species occurring in the Balkan-Tyrrhenian area being present in Crete, Greece, Albania, and probably in Macedonia. Although the western disjointed population of Sicily has been classified as an endemic sub-species, F. nodosa subsp. geniculata (Guss.) Troia & Raimondo, its official acceptance is quite controversial. In order to verify the existence of two different sub-species, we investigated the chemical composition of the essential oil of F. nodosa, collected in Crete (Greece), not previously reported, and we compared it with the previously oil compositions reported in literature. Main constituents of the Cretan accessions of F. nodosa were…
Characterization and antimicrobial activity of the volatile components of the flowers of Magydaris tomentosa (Desf.) DC. collected in Sicily and Alge…
2014
The essential oils of the flowers of Magydaris tomentosa (Desf.) DC. (Apiaceae) collected in Sicily (MSi) and Algeria (MAl), respectively, were obtained by hydrodistillation, and their compositions were analysed. The analyses allowed the identification and quantification of 23 components in MSi and 60 compounds in MAl, respectively, showing a very different profile in the composition of the two populations. The main components of MSi were cembrene (28.2%), α-springene (17.5%) and β-springene (14.8%), also present in MAl but in lesser amount (0.4%, 1.8% and 0.9%, respectively), whereas the principal constituents of MAl were (E)-nerolidol (35.4%), α-costol (13.3%) and β-costol (6.8%). Both MS…
Stable carbon and oxygen isotope fractionation in bivalve (Placopecten magellanicus) larval aragonite
2008
Abstract The relationship between stable isotope composition (δ13C and δ18O) in seawater and in larval shell aragonite of the sea scallop, Placopecten magellanicus, was investigated in a controlled experiment to determine whether isotopes in larval shell aragonite can be used as a reliable proxy for environmental conditions. The linear relationship between δ13CDIC and δ13Caragonite (r2 = 0.97, p δ 13 C DIC = 1.15 ( ± 0.05 ) ∗ δ 13 C aragonite - 0.85 ( ± 0.04 ) The relationship between δ13CDIC and δ13Caragonite described for P. magellanicus resulted in larval shell aragonite that was depleted on average by 1.82‰ (SD = 0.22‰, range = 1.1–2.1‰) from predicted equilibrium values based on the r…
