Non-chemotherapy drug-induced agranulocytosis in a tertiary hospital

2015

Drug-induced agranulocytosis is a rare haematological disorder considered as severe adverse drug reaction. Due to its low incidence, the number of studies are low and the variability of clinical features and presentation in hospitalized patients is rarely described. Awe performed an observational, transversal and retrospective study in the haematology and toxicology unit in a tertiary hospital located in Spain (Valencia) (1996–2010) in order to assess its incidence, the drugs involved, the management and outcomes of drug-induced agranulocytosis. Twenty-one cases of agranulocytosis were retrieved. All of them presented severe and symptomatic agranulocytosis (fever and infection). The most c…

Parental occupational exposure to organic solvents and anencephaly in Mexico

2009

Objective: To assess the relationship between parental occupational exposure to organic solvents, and the risk of anencephaly in Mexico. Methods: A case-control study was conducted based on the registers of the Epidemiological Surveillance System for Neural Tube Defects in Mexico; 151 cases of anencephaly of ≥20 weeks’ gestation were included. A control, born alive and without any apparent congenital malformations at birth, was selected for each case in the same maternity service in which the case was born. Information on occupational exposures, lifestyle habits, reproductive history, use of medicines, supplementation with multivitamins and folic acid, was obtained by a general questionnair…

Pyomyositis of the iliacus muscle complicated with septic sacroiliitis

2008

We report a rare case of pyomyositis of the iliacus muscle in a 29-year-old woman. After 2 weeks of adequate treatment, secondary septic sacroiliitis occurred, a complication that had not been described previously. Pyomyositis of the iliacus muscle must be considered in the differential diagnosis of acute pain in the hip region.

Fatal multi-organ failure following anaphylactic shock induced by ceftriaxone

2014

In the latest years, based on the wide use of cephalosporins for antibiotic therapy, a large interest focused on the identification of causal relationship of adverse reactions after their prescription. We report a case of fatal anaphylactic shock following the administration of ceftriaxone in a woman who had tolerated the previous exposure to the drug. This case adds a contribution to the few cases reported in literature to further suggest the possibility of severe anaphylaxis after the administration of ceftriaxone even in patients without any previous reaction to this drug.

Rapid antibiotic susceptibility testing on blood cultures using MALDI-TOF MS

2018

International audience; Antibiotic resistance is a major public health problem requiring the early optimization of antibiotic prescriptions. Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-Time Of Flight Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) has been shown to accurately identify bacteria from positive blood culture. Here, we developed a rapid detection of Escherichia coli resistance to amoxicillin (AMX) and cefotaxime (CTX) from positive blood culture based on MALDI-TOF MS. Potential sparing of broad-spectrum antibiotics was also evaluated. We tested 103 E. coli-positive blood cultures. Blood cultures were subculture 1-hour in antibiotic-free rich liquid media before further incubation with and with…

Cefalea postpunción dural: correlación clínico-radiológica.

2015

Palazzo Reale 2. Cappella Palatina 3. Chiesa di San Giovan…

Reconstruction of the Parker spiral with the Reverse in situ data and MHD APproach - RIMAP

2021

The reconstruction of plasma parameters in the interplanetary medium is very important to understand the interplanetary propagation of solar eruptions and for Space Weather application purposes. Because only a few spacecraft are measuring in situ these parameters, reconstructions are currently performed by running complex numerical Magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) simulations starting from remote sensing observations of the Sun. Current models apply full 3D MHD simulations of the corona or extrapolations of photospheric magnetic fields combined with semi-empirical relationships to derive the plasma parameters on a sphere centered on the Sun (inner boundary). The plasma is then propagated in the i…
