Formation of layered titania and zirconia catalysed by surface-bound silicatein

Silicatein immobilised on self-assembled polymer layers using a histidine-tag chelating anchor group retains its hydrolytical activity for the formation of biosilica, and catalyses the formation of layered arrangements of biotitania and biozirconia.

Highly enantioselective aza-Henry reaction with isatin N-Boc ketimines.

2014

A highly enantioselective aza-Henry reaction with isatin N-Boc ketimines using a Cu(II)–BOX complex as a catalyst is described. The reaction, which does not require protection of the N1 atom, provides the corresponding nitroamines bearing a quaternary stereocentre with high yields and enantiomeric excesses (up to 99.9%).

Indentation of rigidly supported sandwich beams with foam cores exhibiting non-linear compressive behaviour.

A generalized analytical approach to investigate the indentation of sandwich beams under concentrated loads is presented, based on the Winkler foundation theory. A segment-wise model is implemented to the case of fully backed sandwich beams with polymeric foam cores exhibiting generic non-linear compressive behaviours. Closed-form analytical solutions of the indentation curve are obtained for simplified foam compression behaviours: elastic-perfectly-plastic, bilinear and bilinear-perfectly-plastic. Time-resolved luminescence of YAG:Ce and YAGG:Ce ceramics prepared by electron beam assisted synthesis

Abstract The luminescence characteristics of YAG:Ce and YAGG:Ce ceramic phosphors produced by electron beam assisted synthesis have been investigated. The obtained emission and decay kinetics characteristics have been compared with those for commercial phosphors synthesized by conventional methods and showed good qualitative and quantitative correspondence. In our opinion, the used electron-beam-assisted synthesis method could be considered as a perspective production method of high refractory multicomponent oxide ceramics.

Cathodoluminescence and IR absorption of oxygen deficient silica – influence of hydrogen treatment

Abstract The cathodoluminescence (CL) and IR absorption of silica samples with normal stoichiometry as well as with an extremely high level of oxygen deficit were studied. Additionally, some samples have been treated in hydrogen at 800°C. Crystalline quartz was used for reference measurements and the CL data have been compared with those of X-ray excited luminescence (XL). The luminescence spectra of silica have a band at 1.85 eV due to non-bridging oxygens and the two bands at 2.7 and 4.4 eV due to twofold-coordinated silicons. The structural properties of soda–silicate sols and of the lime–soda–silicate gel formation

Abstract Alkaline silicate solutions were prepared with varying SiO 2 –Na 2 O ratios, Rm=[SiO 2 ]/[Na 2 O]=2 or 3, with a constant silica concentration equal to 1.5 M. The structure and the number fraction of different silicate molecular species present in the solutions were classically determined for molar ratio Rm=2 using 29 Si nuclear magnetic resonance ( 29 Si NMR). In the case of the sample with Rm=3, for which no NMR data was available, we used small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) experiments to get this information. The SAXS model was previously tested with Rm=2 silicate solution. When Ca ++ is added to alkaline silicate solutions, a gel is obtained under well-defined conditions. The …

Abstract The "Bell Beaker " complex should not be globally perceived, because it seems to include several different entities, as shown by its variations in space and time. A regional approach, in south-eastern France, outlines the existence of a first " Bell Beaker Phenomenon " and its spread in Late Neolithic societies. This relatively marginal phenomenon quickly becomes an actual independent "Bell Beaker Culture ", with different geographical fades. These may have been in contact with surviving local cultures.
